New car - immediate issues on detailing....

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Just bought my winter stop gap to replace the R36.

Its a little Mini Cooper S R56 2007....

Two issues to sort out on the first detailing session - dealer label on back window seems glued;

then melted and almost impossible to get any purchase to even scrape it off. :S

Ideas and suggestions welcome on this one - its horrid!!

Next issue - the plastic sills and wheel arches have a lot of polish or wax residue on.

Looks a bit white and grey in places. Whats best to dissolve and clear the excess wax/polish?

Thanks in advance for your help....

Cheers,

Ste.

strong wash of apc

then tardis

tardis might also help remove the dealer label

Pleased to hear you've got a little toy again! Did you ever hear anything about the R36 that got stolen? :(

Get a few pics up of your cooper s :)

thanks guys - tried apc and not making much progress.

Will dig out the tardis next perhaps.

R36 is gone, vanished, AWOL..... never seen again. :'(

I'll sort pics when i get a decent stretch of weather.

Use a stanley blade (sharp edge) on it's side, will lever any type of sticker off.

Wipe sticky residue off with pure white spirit.

White spirit should remove any wax protective coat, on wheel arches/ sills etc, failing that, use petrol very sparingly.

Afterwards, ensure a good soapy wash and thorough clean water rinse over area's effected.

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2012.

Yep - that sounds a very definitive solution - nice one!

Many thanks

enjoy the mini mate my wife has same car as you and it is so much fun and it handles like a go kart too. its not a slouch either it could match my vrs before it was remapped!

i use megs ultimate protectant on the plastics and they come up pretty good!

Thanks mate. It is a fast little car and as you say the handling and firm ride really give it the go-kart feel!

Currently, it has a Milltek exhaust from CAT back and sounds great; but needs the front exhaust section and a remap doing.

Planning that as soon as funds become available and Will at P-torque claims it will hit circa 240bhp on his map which is getting good reviews on the Mini forums.

Ok - once i get the wax/polish residue off the plastic i might trial the Megs Ultimate or 303 Aero protectant perhaps.

as previous reply...

on the sticker a body shop gave me some special blades just like stanely blades remove anything..

but on the plastic theres only one thing ive used time & time again on many different cars..

Autoglym bumper care.. works a treat used to use it on my old mini cooper D.. :)

Steve was at ours today detailing the car together, hairdryer on dealer badge then I pulled it off 30 seconds max,( then g4 applied) gt85 on the arches brought the wax off, then maguires endurance gel applied with applicator got them like new again. The car was snow foamed , shampoed, dried, polished,gt85 to remove tar spots, black hole applied, then nattys wax, then hydra gel. Endurance on the tyres. Steve also fitted leds on sidelights , the difference was startling. Car looks like new, neighbour who passed thought it was. Steve took photos but had to take his Mrs for a late lunchso might post later. He also sorted out my surround sound for my Tv, ( cheers Steve)

Pictures taken through the process of the detail on the Mini Cooper S today.

Products etc as summarised by Bluevrs2 in post above...

All interior bulbs have already been converted to LED and today fitted the front sidelights.

Number plates lights also changed to LED last week; only thing to look at is front fog bulbs to get Xenon white match!

Its been a busy first week on the new car - 4 new Hankook S1 Evo run-flats fitted, tracking all done and CEL emissions light deleted which seems to be related to the Milltek catback exhaust fitted.

Was going to take some night pics for full LED effect but weather has turned wet

Thanks for the comments Simon. Much appreciated  Sorry to see the damage on the Superb frontend today.

Love the colour too btw - very very close to the colour of my first car - 1991 Rover Metro Gti 16V :giggle:

Not so much poverty there Simon; just that last year got 2 sets from you at the price you quoted!

Would have ordered the same again if the price was reasonable

Anyway - PM me is you want to clear stock and offer a discount

The joy of metal pressed plates, you just press them back into shape........

Nice comparison there........ ;)

As for the pricing, times move on, no discounts I am afraid, they sell themselves......

To remove the wax off the arches ( previous owner had got it everywhere) also removes tar, and dont go telling me I should have used Tardis, gt85 costs £2.85 and I always have some in ( for the bike) and me/myself /I never hardly ever get tar spots,on my own car, as so much wax on it hardly ever clings.
