Silver Bullet feeler....

Featured Replies

Right,

After a little over 9 years of ownership (from new) I'm considering chopping in the vRS for a (V10) S6 Avant....something a little more family friendly as I have a little one on the way.

This is only a feeler thread as I really dont want to get rid of her - my wife has a 4x4 so we have that as a family car if needed....as I dont intend to 'give' mine away.

I will put up a comprehensice list of all modification I have undertaken, however it is safe to say you will not find another vRS quite like this anywhere in Europe!

Whilst I appreciate it is an old and outdated car, most of the running gear is less than 4 years old and the engine less than 2. (Overall mileage is 78k, only 14k on 1.9t engine)

I have receipts for over 20K's worth of work/parts (had I not done a lot of it myself it would be close to 30K), so would something in the region of £7,500 be a realistic price for something so unusual/special??

Your thoughts please...

Steve :'(

I wouldn't consider it Steve its taken so long to reach the level u have it at

for the price you will get matee and the effort gone in I wouldnt sell it unless you dont like or want it.

I am keeping mine (for a bit anyway) and Ive just got a little fabia vRS as a daily. I just cant bring myself to sell. If your car was mine I certainly woulnt sell her!

Mind IF I cant afford to keep mine Ill be stripping it. dont want anyone else driving my car as I too have had her from new.

good luck mate, only you can make the choise.

A car is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it, yes it's cost you a lot of money, but 99% of potential owners will not care for most of the mods you have done

Find that 1% and you may sell it, but for most people the price would need to be book price + £1k or £2k at most as modifications add no value to a car and would actually put most people off.

Unfortunately the only way to get decent money back on any highly modified car would be to put it back to std and sell the mods separately (assuming you had all the std parts still - I doubt this)

I think you are wrong there, yeah most mods don't add value on a normal VRS, this isn't your normal modded car anyone in the know about this car will know it's worth that. The engine alone is worth a lot.

Post up some pics matey B)

Put your money where your mouth is and buy it then ... I would love to see it go for decent money, chances are though it wont happen as others have found out.

There have been numerous for sale threads on here in the past for some pretty highly modified cars and IIRC they all struggled to sell.

A friend i used to co-drive for (rallying) paid over £10k for his engine (fully sorted steel 4AGE) he is now looking to sell the car, but the car as a whole is worth only slightly more than a rolling shell (minus engine and box) and thousands less than the engine cost .... so that is how he is now looking to sell the car as a rolling shell.

Steve did ask for "Your thoughts please..." these are mine, some will agree others will not.

You'll regret selling if you still enjoy the car and it makes you grin from ear to ear every time you drive.

On the otherhand if it sits in your garage and never sees the light of day particularly during winter months then where's the joy in that.

After I stripped the yellow peril back to standard it was fine for daily driving but looking back, wish it still had its 300+ bhp :(

If I had the money, I'd take it off you tomorrow as I miss my **** off a shovel peril machine despite it's thirst for oil, though its still going well and will be ten years old in March!

Hope you make the decision you're after!

JUST !

BE !

SURE !

Sell it mate!

You will not get anywhere near what you are after but it will be gone and you can move on. You get to the point when head takes over heart, you buy something standard and wonder what all the fuss was about.

Just get rid and reflect on what an A** you have been all these years and why you never did it sooner.

Trust me, I know. ;)

Good luck mate.

If you do sell, your asking price is worth it IMO. Just a case of waiting for the right person I think.

Ed H's estate was up for more than you're asking. This other then Des's and yours is (or was) one of the few hugely modified Octavia on here.

Edit: or listen to Des, he knows more than anyone else.

Im Confused - isnt the octy a family car , plenty of people have gone from a Fabia which they consider the boot not big enough for baby equipment to the octy which swallows it with room to spare.

Im sure the Octy boot is prob bigger that the 4x4 you have.

With the MK1 you get a monster boot but rear leg room is compromised, especially for fitting car seats and even more so if the driver is tall. We found this out after buying ours, I ended up with the VRS and bought her a people carrier

Yes i agree, my girls r 2 and a bit and 6 months, so theres a maxi cosi tobi behibd the passanger and with the rear facing cosi its a ass to drive, being 6,3 i end up feeling really uncomfy driving, proper squished up it feels

Lol so we mainly use the mrs seat altea

Sad days  don't do it, yours is unique and the looks on other drivers faces as you surprize them is priceless. I am 52 next and have had high powered cars an Evo 6 to name but one, but yours and mine are sleepers and that gives me the greatest satisfaction that 99% of drivers think your driving a standard 180bhp vRS.

This is my third high powered octy and each time I have changed motors either for more luxery power or econemy I have been drawn back to the Octy so I say think very long and hard before you commit and if you do decide to sell somebody will be getting the best specced Octy in the UK.

Steve

never a truer word said!!!

You have a great car steve, but like all very modded cars they are niche, and people just dont seem to realise how much it would cost 'them' to do, i would never mod a stock car again, i would def one already done then change accordingly. Modded stuff just (incorrectly imo) puts people off. I know this first hand having just sold mine (stock) in the end!

If you do sell, your asking price is worth it IMO. Just a case of waiting for the right person I think.

Again both very fair comments, and just to clarify, i love your car steve! for what its worth i dont think you will get the same grin factor out of the audi, having owned a fast audi, they are great, and much better as cruisers, god i wish i had mine for driving to italy, and spain as the skoda is just nowhere near as nice a place to be in for fast cruising, cabins are so comfy, refinded, ergonomic and so much better kitted out.

For everyday driving, the audi will be nicer, more comfy capapble and safe, but for the sunday or late night spirited drive, the vrs (your vrs) will win win win everytime!

  • Author

Thank you for all of the comments folks!

Having driven a v10 S6 earlier today I can report back that I will be sticking with mine.

I was impressed with absolutely everything the S6 offered, but it did not excite me. It was dare I say it, boring! Mind it sounded foooking amazing. At speeds over 80mph my vRS is far superiour in terms of performance, but the quattro gave it better grip and posture on the road.

Quite simply, not good enough for me to take the plunge. After listening to everyone, I will strip it when the time comes.....

Steve :)
