Satnav update

Featured Replies

I was at the stealers recently having a heating problem fixed and asked about the upgrade to the satnav. Nearly choked when they wanted £200 to do it.

I have seen upgrade discs on Ebay are they any good.

Discussions and links to illegal / counterfeit software is not allowed on Briskoda and any such posts will be deleted.

edit: I have removed a link from my own post, the following posts may read a little odd as a result.

I was wondering the same when I looked at it!

£79 for a product that the dealer doesn't supply (correct me if I am wrong) sounds too good to be true.

And you all know what they say about that...

mannyo, how is this legitimate source? It's no better than ebay. Legit are the ones from the Dealer, these are not for sale on the Web. Speedcameras are custom added by modders, meaning it's a downloaded and customized image with extra speed cam database.

I'll even tell you how you enable these custom speed cams in RNS510:

Nav-Setup-Map-Map details-Car & Travel-Traffic- Speedcams/Red Light cameras.

Delete that post asap as you are pushing illegal software, before I post a torrent link for free :giggle:

That's what my stealers told me when I asked them about upgrading from 6 to 7. However, from here I knew that V7 had been released a few months prior to me taking delivery of my car and informed the stealer of this and that perhpas I'd be better speaking to SUK, without a moments hesitation my car was booked in for the following week and the update done f.o.c.

If not free, then a small 30min labour charge is usually charged in Europe if you have purchased it from the dealer once, or with your car. A totally new purchase is full price obviously, but upgrade for full price is a ripoff.

quick question on this. Should I purchase an updated disc (think mine is v6), does it need to goto the dealer for any sort of update, or do I literally just swap the dics?

Just put the new disc in. It doesn't need to be done by a dealer.

Sorry to hijack but does the disc need to stay in or can you upload the data so as to allow removal of the disc?

think it depends on the unit, mine is 'Nexus' and requires the disc in all the time. Others simply copy the information to storage (sd?) media and remove the disc

Columbus rns510 has a hard drive so it can store maps. Takes about 20-30 min to copy.

So just to Clarify, if you have a Columbus, you put a disk in, follow the odd command, and wait.... then you have the latest version?

Having read that back, it sounds slightly sarcastic, but it REALLY isnt meant to be - I just want it spelling out how the process works with a Columbus :)

Basically yes .... but you may need to update your FW 1st to get the full benefit.

Great, thanks folks and once again sorry to the OP for the hijack.

Don't be sorry for the OP, lend him a copy, redeem your hijacking self :giggle:

The company I linked to, have a retail shop up north, are VAT registered, been in business for years and sell all sorts of car accessories including Columbus Navs, MDI retrofits and more. I know what you are saying, but if they were selling illegal software they would have been raided by trading standards a long time ago. With the latest firmware and maps you dont need to make any modifications to the Nav DVD rom, they can simply be imported via the SD card slot via a .db3 file.

I know you can add speed cameras that way. However the link I posted in post#3 is for a Map DVD with UK speed cameras already on the DVD.

That's not available from VW so how is it genuine? It's only £80 compared to £200+ from VW (without speed cams)

What that old saying........"if something looks to good be true......?!"

Well ive just bought the disk so will update this thread when I have it and its been installed.

Everything on the site is backed up by their customer service claims so lets see what happens :p

Oh I'm sure it will install absolutely fine.

If you buy a Columbus from EBay it will work and install absolutely fine - however there is a good chance what you have in your hands will have come from someone's pride and joy without their permission.

The DVD linked to above CANNOT be legit - really don't care what they say on their website.

VW do not sell a DVD with speed cameras, so the very fact this has them included means it is not an original DVD supplied by VW.

I'm thinking the same thing.

For the record I have a legit unit and legit disks up to V7.1 from Skoda. I have updated both the FW and Nav in the past so I know it will update with legit software no problems.

Order placed and paid for so will update with further info when I have recieved the disk and done the update.

The matter was that ebay and these people who sell them online, have no differences whatsoever. SDCard or integrated, makes no difference, that is not for sale outside dealer network. When dealers rip off people with full price for updates, that thts going to push a few bargain/free hunters to get them somewhere else. You don't pay full map price for every update from TTom/Garmin/etc etc, but minor prices, or annual map updates as they update more often that Car Navs.

It IS a ripoff copy. No doubt at all.

Sadly, you've paid £80 for something you could have download from the Internet for absolutely nothing.

If you're going to steal software (which you are doing by paying a company £80 for maps hat are obviously not legitimate) then don't pay anything.

I have this argument time and time again on computer forums.

I am a big believer in software licenses and paying for what you use. I own a PC, my wife owns a PC and we own a MAC and a PC laptop.

Each of these machines have got 100% legitimate software on - I will not have it any other way.

My Columbus at the moment has 7.1 maps on and will remain so until my local Skoda dealership can provide e with v8 maps.

If you aren't going to pay then be a thief (yer, I know that technically it isn't theft - but then neither is taking a car, that is TWOC - a rose by any other name.....) don't pay somebody to do the stealing for you.

By paying £80 for these maps the theif gets £80 for the price of a blank CD and you are doing nothing more than "handling stolen goods".

If anyone has ordered, take your new DVD to a local dealership, or send it along to VW UK - I think they would be very interested to hear about somewhere selling DVD's for £80 which will almost certainly have been made up from an illegal source.

I have just emailed the company concerned regarding these disks and this issue and have directed them towards this thread.

Lets see if they respond and join the debate. Please may I remind people that in this country at least, everyone is innocent until proven guilty.

Before anyone jumps down my throat - I am a professional photographer and take (copyright) theft of my images quite seriously.

VW don't sell a nav disc with a speed camera database on it. This compnay do sell one.

Therefore the disc is NOT genuine.

What more proof do you want?!
