Combined satnav & speed trap detector?

Featured Replies

Are there such things? I was going for an Origin B2, but then I thought why not go for satnav and combine this with a speed trap detector? I would also like maps on my Tungsten T5. Can I get any system that I can use on both?

Check out www.pocketgps.co.uk. I think there are both a free and a charged for database available which load speed camera locations as POIs. Not sure of the platform limitations but there's plenty of info. on the site.

The map overlays will give you an indication of where the fixed installations are.

Sounds more like a sat nav with POIs (points of interest) for speed cameras, using the pocketgps database mentioned above... not a "detector" as such...

I've got tomtom on my palm T3 with the added POIs and it works a treat ;)

It is but whats the point of buying a true detector anyway?

1. Soon illegal

2. They cannot warn of Truvelos or Specs, etc.

The postcode add on is great too but it's been taken down for copywrite reasons. Very handy if you know somone that has it

It depends on what your definition of a 'true' detector is.

GPS driven detectors are not going to be made illegal.

GPS driven detectors do warn of Truvelo's and Specs amongst other things.

The Origin B2 originally mentioned is a GPS driven detector.

Tomtom 5 is supposed to offer full postcode searching as standard, which will be nice if it all works properly :D

It is a really handy feature and as the whole world seems to run on postcodes these days it makes sense.

Two reasons for buying a true detector are:

1) The yellow boxes are empty at least 80% of the time, if you know there is no camera you can overtake whilst everyone else slows down

2) Mobile cameras can turn up anywhere, a true detector will tell you when there is one nearby

Of course, the real reason is to tell us when we need to be especially careful because are entering an accident black-spot, because we know that the scamera partnerships would only put cameras where they are trying to reduce accients
