DSG software update on 09 VRS?

Featured Replies

I Have just had my car in at the dealers for a DSG problem. Seemed to be hanging on to higher gears too long, shifting up too early and reluctant to shift down which in turn caused a barely audible 'soft chatter' when labouring under acceleration in higher gears, this noise occurred the revs were too low. and the car was labouring in 3rd 4th or 5th. Occasionally the car would also judder slightly when shifting up from 2nd.

My car is ann 09 plate late Pre facelift CR VRS. The dealership ( Benfield in Harrogate ) told me that the car needed a software update on the DSG. I was not aware that there was one available. Can anyone confirm this? I am also not sure if there is a blind bit of difference now it has been supposedly updated. The mechanic also said that the 'soft Chatter' I was hearing was gear noise, and entirely normal.. Not convinced myself.

Bearing in mind my car is out of warranty this spring, need to be sure that....

A - My Mechatronic unit is not about to throw a 7

B - My DMF is in early stages of failure at 29K!!

Any one else with similar problems? I am thinking of taking my car to an independent transmission specialist who really know the DSG box and it's behaviour see.. http://www.automatictransmissions-uk.com/contact.cfm?a=uk. Anybody else know of a good DSG expert in the Yorks area? Not at all convinced about dealers who just plug the damned thing into Diagnostics and tell you "Computer says no"

Advice appreciated.

Why not try another dealer or go for a test drive in a new DSG?

How many miles? Has the Dsg fluids been changed?

My a3 (50k miles in one year) was much better after a change.

Worth doing as well as getting the most uptodate software

The DSG box has a fuzzy logic learning system and will adapt to the way you drive over time. If you spend a lot of time gently accelerating round town it will hold onto high gears for longer. What I found is that after a number of runs using "S" mode on a good driving road using lots of revs it would then hold better gears around town and change up a little later. The soft Chatter is indeed normal, my Superb did it and it at low revs and its quiet an obvious sound if you drive with the windows open.

DSG fluid and filter should be changed every 40,000 miles (no time limit) and if you are over that its well worth getting it changed before the whole box fails.

I know someone who let their DSG box go 200,000kms without the oil/filter change. The car has well over 400,000kms on it and according to him.........its still going strong.

Mine went back to the dealership and they "reset" the box. Been fine ever since.

On my recently purchased FL Octy with 2 litre diesel and DSG I've noticed a distinct difference in the gear changing pattern from my two previous Octys with DSG's. Whilst it holds a higher gear at relatively low speeds on light throttle, whilst, say, descending a hill at about 60 mph and in sixth gear, any light pressure on the brake immediately causes the gearbox the change down to fifth or fourth gear effectively using the engine as a brake. Has anyone else come across this?

Mine's different to my previous one - after only 600 miles maybe its not learnt my driving style yet but it feels smoother and less prone to kickdown and rev to the line. Mind you, I've now got paddles for that !

I'm not even at 30k yet. Interesting hearing about the noise though.
