Large loss of MPG

Featured Replies

hello all,

I have had my fabia mk1 vrs serviced and mot'd in december £850 she came back new tyres bushes wishbone etc and had the glowplugs done, Since then ive dropped from avg of 45-60 mpg depending on the journey to 20-30 mpg. Is there any reason for this. A 20 mile trip to work is costing me about £15 aday as apposed to £15 per week before the mot. Frankly she is bleeding me dry and im stuck for what to do. I have done 230 so far this month and spent £90 in fuel. Im driving like something of an old man and coasting where the roads allow just to save that little bit more.

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks in advance

Craig

Have you tried your MAF?

sorry im not sure what a maf might be

Blocked air filter ? or they could have pulled a wire off a sensor and its upset the engine settings, try unplugging the MAF sensor (resets to default values ) and see if you have an inproved MPG and if so replace it, try euro car parts but buy the genuine bosch one as I bought a cheaper one for an Octavia once and it was useless. cheers - Stuart

Check for binding brakes (hot wheels if you coast to a stop)and any signs of tyre wear. Did you have cam belt done? - If so could be a little out. Have they put the right glow plugs in? (would alter compression ratio)

Check fuel lines connected to the fuel filter ok and clamped on ok.

Also the T-piece insert can leak.
