Hill Hold Fault

Featured Replies

I sincerely hope that you didn't end up having to pay the £280 +VAT for them to check the wiring under the seat!

The fault was present before the warranty ran out and you can prove it so you are covered.

If anything they should be compensating you for the amount of messing around you've had to endure whilst they continue to fail to find and fix the fault.

As is often the case, no fault code = no clue!

The under seat triple sensor is a PITA. In later versions the sensors are integrated into the ABS unit. The data pair wires are very thin and are prone to be loose at the connector crimps.

Hi guy's, well they checked the wiring before (only cost me £148 as wiring isn't covered on the extended warranty) and they said they had found a dodgy connection. This was remade, which supposidly cleared the fault code but not the fault itself. They had to re-program the brake system to get the HHC working again. Unfortuantely due to family issues I have had to bump the date until 4th July, so I'll update you when I have more news.

Once again, just to remind everyone, the extended warranty expired in February

It's the same as replacing the G419 triple sensor.

You have to perform basic setting of the G200 and G251 sensors (part of the G419). It is essential that basic setting of the steering angle sender (G85) is done (if necessary) before the other two.

Hasn't this been done?

I'm not sure if this has been done

This is the following fault code:

Address 03: ABS Brakes Labels: 1K0-614-517-MK60-F.lbl

Part No SW: 1K0 614 517 AC HW: 1K0 614 517 AC

Component: ESP FRONT MK60-AT 0102

Revision: 00H14001

Coding: 0055938

Shop #: WSC 11849 000 1048576

VCID: 68D4AA105B68FA9

1 Fault Found:

00493 - ESP-Sensor Unit (G419)

014 - Defective

As I mentioned before, they have replaced the sensor under the seat and the main ABS unit in the engine bay, even once these were replaced the fault still was present (no fault code though) and was only cleared after the re-programming

So perhaps the re-programming is what you have mentioned ?

Well, the car is now at the dealers, so I'll keep you posted

Well, I've had a call from the Dealers and apparently the sensor under the driver seat has failed, no output from it. They checked all the wiring and everything other than teh sensor is ok. So, the £500 sensor has failed in 4 months, luckily its all covered by the parts warranty

It will be covered.

They are easy to damage during fitting and are destroyed if dropped when removed from the packaging.

Does the tech look apelike in any way :)

Don't they all ? :smirk:

Well, the dreaded hill hold fault has returned and the car is now in the garage. They hope to to find the underlying problem as this will be the third sensor failure. The car is now out of warranty, due to mileage, so Sherlodge have said that if any other component failure is found, other than the parts they have already replaced, it will not be covered and I'll have to pay. Surely if the underlying faut was not found in the previous two instances, then should this be the case as they have only changed components around the function, i.e. abs/esp unit and hill hold sensor, which temporarily resovled the problem.

If you are getting

00493 - ESP-Sensor Unit (G419)

014 - Defective

it means that the G419 is talking correctly, but one of the internal sensors has failed the self diagnostics.

The sensor is extremely vunerable until it's bolted to the chassis. If they are mistreated (shaken, knocked or dropped), then can fail weeks later.

They need to make certain that...

they remove the seat (trying to do this job by feel is going to lead to sensor damage).

they bring the sensor in it's unopened packaging to the car (there's a danger that the sensor is unpacked by the parts guy and stuffed in a parts bin)

the sensor is not forced into position (if it snaps into place the sensor will be damaged)

the sensor is securely bolted down (if the sensor is loose it will be damaged)

the sensor is the correct position - not just in the same place as the old one.

Thanks for your reply, hopefully, as they are a Skoda dealer, they'll know what they are doing (I did say hopefully) :smirk:, I'll let you know the out come as they should be contacting me today

What a PITA this has been for you - I hope they finally resolve it at no cost to you.

Thanks Paul, fingers crossed especially as I've just been made redundant :'(

Well, I callled the dealer and they said that all their tests say that the sensor under the drivers seat has failed again. They also contacted Skoda technical who asked them to test all the ABS sensors, they are all ok. They also said that all the wiring is ok. Sherlodge is now waiting for Skoda Tech to approve the replacement of the sensor, for the third time

Skoda Tech has told Sherlodge to replace the sensor but, its on back order. So once they've got it in, the car will go back

The car is now out of warranty, due to mileage, so Sherlodge have said that if any other component failure is found, other than the parts they have already replaced, it will not be covered and I'll have to pay.

I am pretty sure that if you reported the original fault within the warranty period and they have failed to fix it then there should be no charge. Otherwise they could fiddle their way out of warranty claims by applying "sticking plasters" then, for example, wait until you are out of warranty to tell you that your engine is knackered and needs replacing.

Take foot off brake, you now have two seconds to let up the clutch before brake pressure is released. Worked a treat "Simples"!

Not exactly hill hold is it? The whole point is you do not need to keep your foot on the brake, ie stop on a slope for red light and remove foot from the brake. Car holds until accelerator is pressed beign it 2 seconds or 5 minutes. That 2 second lunacy you described sure seems lika a demo of a good function :)

Well the car is now at the dealers for the sensor replacement, but last week the ABS and ESP lights were on whilst driving, they would clear with cycling the ignition and sometimes they would only be on for a few minutes, details below:

Well I picked the car up yesterday afternoon, the sensor has been replaced for the 3rd time but there were no fault codes stored for the ABS/ESP light issue I experienced
