Door Mirror Smash

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Had some idiot almost drive into me yesterday. Thankfully the worst of it is the driver side door mirror and a few scratches on both front wings (from the idiot and the tree on the verge). Predictably he didn't stop.

All the electronics are working but the drivers side adjusment switch now adjusts both mirrors. Anyway I've seen the threads for replacement mirror glass. DOes anyone know if this likely to be all I need? I'm assuming that the broken glass must be causing some sort of short circuit in the switch. Can't figure out what else it could be - all the other electronics are intact.

That's just a setting in the convenience menu. Drivers side defaults to moving both. You can change it to work independently.

It will have always done this, you've probably just never noticed it before. It took me about 6 months to notice the left moving with the right. :)

It didn't move both before it got hit and the menu hasn't been changed. Will the smash cause it to revert to default? How do I go about altering the convenience menu?

At least I'm pretty sure it didn't do this before. I've had the car for over 2 years. Not sure what that kind of lack of observation would say about me :wonder:

Strange, I only noticed this on mine the other day, flicked the switch to R and adjusted the mirror out a little, returned the switch the O.

Next day noticed that my passenger side wing mirror showed too much of the car, so flicked the switch to L and adjusted it out slightly, only to notice that the right hand mirror was out again too!

Took me a while to suss what was happening but both mirrors do adjust together (hard to witness and I find it quite difficult to watch both mirrors at the same time :giggle: ).

There is a way to turn this 'feature' off in Maxidot, I just need to read the manual.

On mine, the L/H isn't adjusting the right, only the right adjusting the left. I just can't see what point there is in having this setting.

It's for when you change drivers: adjust the right mirror first; the left mirror will automagically move to almost the correct position, and can then be tweaked using the left adjuster. Seems to work pretty well for me and SWMBO, who have very different seat positions.

Even more confused, mine must do that too :(

I think that the idea is if you tilt the mirrors down to see the kerb for parking then if both adjust together it's quicker / easier?

I think that some Octavia's tilt the mirrors down automatically when you select reverse...

OK so seems I must just be really unobservant and the replacement glass is all I need. Thanks everyone.

I think that there are certain things once their is a power failure, like batery unplugged, go back to original settings.

I've never understood why this would even be an option, what a stupid thing, why would you ever want them both to move together.

Yes, I was able to set mine so the passenger one tilts down to show the curb when you select reverse. One of SWMBO's fav bits on the car :giggle:

As already said, once set up its very handy if there are a couple of you who drive. This works especially well with the electric memory seats. You can programme each remote key with a different drivers setting. So when SWMBO uses it it automatically sets the seat and mirrors to her position, and vica versa when I use my key

It's a marmite setting. Some like it, some hate it. I'm in the latter camp and turned it off immediately.

On pre-FL vehicles it's only able to disable this via VCDS; it's not present in the Maxidot convenience menu.

I like it for reversing :D

I can via VCDS put it on the maxidot but nothing happens. Donnot have auto seat
