Using the Amundsen

Featured Replies

Just thought I would share with you that I tried out a 16 Gig SDHC card (£10 from Amazon) in the card slot of the Amundsen. It proved to be easy to use and works really well with the interface. Access was instant and navigating between menus was a breeze. I was using an iPod before which was fine, but an expensive item to leave in car all the time. So if you've got an SD card slot and haven't tried one give it a go. Strange thing was that the sound reproduction seemed better!

I have had the car (105 PS TDi estate) 8 months now and done 8000 miles and it has been very impressive. Getting 55 mpg regularly - no rattles or squeeks, comfortable and easy to drive. No problems at all with the DPF either. Haven't regretted getting Elegance spec.

I've the Amundsen with slot , are you talking about putting music on it and using it that way pics would be nice

Couldn't agree more and if you get a black Kingston one it fits virtually flat to the unit and is barely noticable even in the car.

I have a Fabia with Amundsen on order.

I presume you had to copy the map info over from the original card?

The first gen sat nav had sd card for maps, so to use it more musiic you cannot have the satnav emoticon-0106-crying.gifemoticon-0106-crying.gif

Wow, well done Skoda for that one!

What about the newest Amundsen+?

I have the first gen and you use either the cd rom or the SD card for maps. One or the other it makes no difference to the sat nav unit.

I have a old iPod connected to mdi interface just full of music. It's hidden out the way of prying eyes.

That's assuming your dealer let you have a copy of the nav cd... These days they're not issuing them.

You can use the cd yes or iPod but sd card is for the maps so you cannot listen to music on sd and satnav at same time not sure of the Amundsen +

No put the cd in the drive satnav, place the sd card in the slot in the satnav, then into menu setup then it will put the info on the disk onto the sd cardThere is a sticky here download the manual for the nav

They say 4gb and that's what I used no issues if you run into problems pm me emoticon-0148-yes.gif

On the + the sat nav is on the unit not the SD card, so I understand you could have music on a SD card while using the sat nav. That's what I understand anyway.

However I have my old ipod classic connected and that works fine, not even tried the cd player yet!

Ok i'm extremely confused. So i'm the only one who can do this with an Amundsen (none plus)?

I was so shocked by this I even went out to the car and tested it even though we've been using it for six months now. I have the UK maps installed on my SD card and a folder of music. You can't install UK and European maps on same SD but afaik that was the only limitation. I just started the radio, switched to Media and Katy Perry Starstrukk came on (no flames please! :) ) hit the Sat Nav button, Stored Dest ASDA Falmouth (from our Cornwall holiday), Katy Perry happily playing in the background and "The route is now calculating..".. Sat Nav up and running can switch to media and back with no effect on Sav Nav. I also know from experience they work in combination on the road, as it's sometimes a bugger if you turn the volume down at the wrong time, and mute your Sat Nav instead of the Media.. You have to play the "guess when the woman will next speak to tweak the volume" game.

Just to be 100% I have no + on the writing of my Sat Nav, have no on board hard drive and installed my maps from CD in the car to the SD card. Oh and my CD's are in their case inside my house and the only time i've had them near the car was for installation. So i'm utterly confused and if you can get the SD working for Sat Nav and Music I really recommend it. No risk of leaving your valuable hardware on show in a car park and it is lightning fast to access.

Mine does the same mate. Dunno what others are on about saying it can't be done.

Now I'm confused.? So I've got Amundsen sat nav ( not + ) so I have my maps on sd ! So what your saying is I can put music on the sd card with maps and all will be fine ?

Should be. Not sure if it was in a folder called Music or just in the root directory now, have to check if you need.

Nav CD came with the car and also had to pay for the postcode update CD later ( a long post on this).

If you have bought a factory fit Sat Nav, I understand from posts in previous discussions you were intitled to the media that supports the unit.

Surely this has not changed ? Has it ?

Apparently you should have either sd or disc with car

Hi comrades with Amundsen sat nav , watch out for failing gps modules within the antenna , just been to dealers with my satnav going one way and me the other , he's had 3 in the last week so keep an I out, if your satnav tells you to go through field and walls you've a problem :wonder:
