what ya think!! maybe I've done it wrong?

we are doing a classic trial tomorrow and figured some extra ground clearance would be good

oh and my lightweight tailgate :giggle:

In fairness this old banger has done me well with lots of road rallies, nav scatters, autotests etc so now we thought we would have a go at trialling.

the wheels are 14" and have 165/70/14 tyres on for those that looked and thought it was still lowish

How did you do it jimbo? Spacers or just using longer springs?

  • Author

Diesel front springs with a spacer under the bearing (the top nut is only just on to the nylock part lol.

and made up a spacer on the rear beam out of some 2" box that bolts to the origional place and the rear strut bolts to that around 2.5" lift on the back.

because I think its important to retain the full travel of the dampers. removed the van ARB too.

It is a bit strange to drive now and the towbar will prob take your kneecap out now :giggle:

I'll maybe put a vid up tomorrow eve after the event as we have a camera in the car lol.

Felicia Scout

i want them wheels when you finshed with them please

you don't there isn't a round one amoungst them now... finished the trial today but need much more clearance at the front as we kept getting stuck in the ruts and grinding to a halt.. :wonder:

What you could do jimbo is make a kind of cotton reel spacer that goes on top of the front top mounts, have one with 2 holes in to accept the studs on top of the original one, weld that to a tubular spacer, then have another circular ring on top with 2 studs poking out the top to bolt to the body..

Or you could just chop the turrets down and re weld them in a lower position..

Only thing you would have to watch out for is if you go much higher you will get a lot of positive camber as a natural side affect of raising it up which might make it steer oddly.

Yea Tom problem at the moment is the balljoint getting VERY close to locking up at full reach and not a good angle on the shafts, a spacer under the X member would help with this but bigger tyres is the easy answer I think as we have plenty of grunt to spin em still.

Its my road car at the mo so it needs to be easily changed back to drivable quickly lol..

I'll try and put some vids on later as it is very suprising where you can get a fwd drive car to go without ballast as everyone else had .

Yeah, if you're a nutter!

Yeah, if you're a nutter!

I resemble that remark!!!!

vids playing up a bit only uploading at 40kbs..

that looks fun you still got the leather seats

  • Author

oh yea it was, leather seats went ages ago mate fitted to my missus's car then sold the car.

you could stick some spacers in-between the subframe/ track control arm mounts and the bottom of the body, but then the steering column would be too short, but that could be sorted out fairly easily.

That looks like some stages I've driven. Good fun, Jim? Cost? How much time did you get in the car?

  • Author

Cracking fun mate, cost was £35 + £15 road ins if your ins doesn't cover you. We started at 10:30 and finished by 4 and did 14 tests. Road tyres only no m+s , did around 70 miles in total

Looks good, if I get another recce Felicia this year I may keep it for a bit of that sort of fun!
