Dealer vs internet broker

Featured Replies

I'm current looking to change car.

Looking towards a Fabia Greenline estate. Been to a couple of dealerships and as soon as I say the word discount they all seem to suck through their teeth and say "there is no discount on these cars now days as skoda take all the mark up away"

Now I've read a few posts about "drivethedeal" and heard good things about them, should I just buy online and be done with it or keep trying to get some discount from dealers.

DTD state that the finance offers are also available with any price they offer. Has anyone used DTD and take finance through the dealership at the current offers rate?

I know Marlborough in Ilseworth supply through DTD yet will not offer any discount.

DTD get paid commision from the dealership from hat I understand as you do not pay a fee unlike broadspeed.

We used DTD when we got the wife's Yeti. Had no problems, arranged Skoda (VW) finance through the dealer (Marlborough), good communication (via email) and would happily use them again.

Alternativily, email the DTD quote to a few dealers and see if any are intrested in doing a deal. I did this with my Octavia and one dealer showed interest and got close (within £150) to the DTD deal, so they got my business as it meant I didn't have to travel to London to pick up the car.

Try shopping around but I would try to stick with the dealers but I get on really well with mine.

I think the main reason for lack of discount is the VAT free offer which is currently on.

So you are effectively getting a good discount.

Or are the pre discount prices over inflated? Like Ford and other manufacturers who raised their prices as the scrappage scheme was announced to soften the blow of the £1k manufacturer contribution.

For genuine pricing it would be interested to see what deals fleet operators and leasing companies get. but we will never know 'cause it is a stitch up.

this is what I'd rather do, I know from reading on here people have got deals from drivethedeal.

At the moment after walking out the showroom SEAT have phone back today asking what would get me back into it for a order. I said the internet broker price I showed him would be a step in the right direction. They will come back to me.

Anyone bought a new skoda got anything better than the vat off offer?

I'd rather of a skoda but if it comes down to money SEAT is the next best thing.

Used a broker about 5 years back when I bought a Toyota Avensis. Local dealer would not do any sort of deal claiming overheads, low comission, etc.. When I said I had got an offer from a broker, he and his manager tried to put the scare tactics on me that it would be an import, no Toyota warranty, etc.. The broker car was supplied through a Uk dealership and I had no issues with it getting warranty work carried out at my local dealer, even had a water pump replaced after it had dropped out of warranty at Toyota's cost as it was fully dealer serviced. So my experience of broker cars is good. Some firends wanted a new Avensis as well and their dealer would match the broker price.

Shop around and if they still won't do a good deal, go to the broker.

I very nearly bought from DTD but decided to try to find a dealer who would get close to their price and found one after 20 or so phone calls.

It meant a long trip to pick it up but it saved me a couple of grand.

Servicing and warranty issues have all been sorted out by my local dealer who are generally good at everything but price.

Seat seem the most willing to do deals.

just under £13k with rear parking sensors, climate, curtain airbags and rear electric windows. (in other words the VAT offer price). DTD is about £800 less.

I've got one in the same spec a year old.

In the end I went to the dealer because they could get close enough to the internet price to make buying from a local dealer worthwhile. I'd rather have a relationship with them if they are nearby and you have a problem.

The dealers ended up within about £250, so it was worth it IMO.

If you dont mind PM me the dealer? As I'm often in essex.

Preston Motors in Forest Gate. 10 minutes from me.

I've ordered four cars there in the last two years.

Lee is the salesman I use, but he is off due a new baby this week, back next week I believe.
