How easy/costly is is to get Bluetooth retrofitted?

Featured Replies

Advice required please if anyone can spare the time.

I didn't go for Bluetooth (short-sighted on my part) when I ordered my car and after travelling in a friends Passat that has bluetooth I realise how good it is.

I don't really want to fit it myself as, apart from inclination, I don't have the time to fit it in, get the tools, read up on how to do it, faff around pulling trim off etc - AKA I'm lazy and will pay someone to do it ..... at least I'm honest! :)

So, mine is July 2011 Octavia Scout, has a reasonable amount of extras, just not bluetooth or MDI. I live in the East midlands not too far from Stamford/Peterborough.

Give Shark Performance a ring - Probably cost you somewhere around £300 but it is money well spent, the integration is excellent.

are you looking for Skoda OEM or one of the others? (e.g Nokia)

I will give Shark a call to see what they can do. Somehow thought they would crop us as recommended :)

I don't know, the one I experienced was OEM and figure that would work best and really like the integration with the car (VW's maxidot equivalent and the stereo), however open to suggestions if someone has first-hand experience of something that works really well.

I was waiting for that too :giggle: If you had said you were in Australia I think Ben would still have been recommended :rofl:

I have just fitted an OEM (premium) version 5N0035730D, I made sure I bought one that supported all phones. I bought the parts on ebay for £160 and fitted it myself. I would not say it is technically difficult but it is a ball-ache, I spent about 5 hours scraping my knuckles and swearing in the cold to get it done neatly.

On balance I would recommend having it fitted but ensure it is by someone who knows what they are doing as there is ample room for cowboy work. The above recommendation for Shark, especially if your in the East Midlands would seem to make sense to me.

I still haven't got mine coded in to the car.

If you want a cheaper option you could try a Parrot CK3100 for about £165.00 fully fitted.

I haven't got one but looked into it a while ago.

Whereas the Parrot kits are good (fitted a CK3200LS in SWMBO's Golf) it is IMO not a patch on the OE set up

I fitted a Nokia CK-7W in mine, other than having to take the dash apart (one of the connectors got stuck), it would have taken about 2 hours max to install. My phone already has voice-dialling and announces the caller, so no distraction of looking at MaxiDot. It's wired into the phone port on the Stream MP3 unit, so it mutes and pumps the sound out through the existing speakers. IIRC the kit pairs to 5 phones too. Small, unobtrusive control (little bigger than a 50p). It charges the phone too (drilled a small hole in the top touch-box on the dash for the cable), which is something very very rare, certainly something the Skoda OEM won't do (leaves the 12v port free for other things). Three power lines (negative, always live, switched live - the lives comming off the fusebox), three wires and a green connector (all for a pittance from the local dealer).

Brand new, in box, from ePray: £40

I fitted a Fiscon Basic + unit emoticon-0148-yes.gifinto my Vrs estate. Was easy to do, and integrates seamlessly with the Bolero and the maxi dot . The unit worked with the Bolero head unit out of the box, but required dealer coding ( was not charged), for it to work with the maxi dot.

It is very similar in operation to the OEM unit, and much nicer to have no extra control screens etc as in the Parrot or Bury.

i fitted a Premium VW Bluetooth 9WZ (GSMIII in skoda terms) unit into mine.

fitting was easy. putting everything back was the hardest part - thanks to the additional quadlock connector and limited space behind the columbus unit!!

i bought the following:-

1. bt unit (9wz - 3C8035730A. includes external antenna for rsap functionality. bought it from a forum member)

2. bt interface (wiring harness. bought it from ebay - bluewagen)

then it was plug'n'play from there.

once all in place, borrowed a friend's vcds and enabled the phone function.

cost me $250 AUD all up :) can't complain there.

i've got some pics of the install here.

Another happy FISCON user here :) I had mine fitted at Richter Sport in Milton Keynes. Its much better than the parrot I had on my previous car.

Fiscon for me aswell. Integrates fully with the touchscreen on the Colombus.

£350 supplied and fitted by OEMRetrofits.

Much better than the 'add on' kits from Parrot et al thatIve had in previous cars.

Fiscon all the way - no extras around (the screen of my old parrot kit just would not stay stuck to the dash - was not prepared to glue it on) and works perfectly with a Bolero/ Columbus.

Quite easy to fit - longest bit was waiting to have the time to get it coded so all the info came up on the maxidot (dealer did it in the end for free when it went for a service a few weeks after installation).

I have the Fiscon (OEM didn't support handsfree protocol when I got my car) but it's a similar cost to the OEM module and doesn't really support bluetooth streaming properly (it works, but only through the front speakers and appears to the Columbus/Bolero as a phone call) whereas the latest OEM version does...

I'm very happy with the Fiscon but if i was buying today would go the OEM route...

Well I asked for a quote from Shark and they came back promptly with £425 inc VAT, maybe a bit more than I was expecting but worth knowing.

10% discount for Briskoda members?

I mentioned Briskoda in the e-mail I sent, although I didn't specifically mention a discount; £425 or £382.50 is still a fair wedge!

It is! Definitely a significant purchase, However I spend more on my phones in general, so looked at in perspective I definitely felt it was good value.

I use it everyday, and wouldnt be without it, compared to my last parrot kit, it is in another league + you cant see any evidence of it in the car, great for prying eyes.

Hi

I have an unused 5N0035730D with external antenna for sale. If interested PM me and I am sure you can get it at a reasonable price. I used the 5K0 kit and got away without coding but the 5N0 supports SMS and other members have installed them successfully. It will integrate with Bolero well and also with maxidot. worth the money IMO.

I still can't see how any manufacturer can justify £1500 for sat nav or £300+ for handsfree.

And they all charge the same like someone's set the price

Because people still pay it. If the general populace were a bit more discerning the prices would plummet.

Having said that I paid god only knows how much for leather seats that are mostly plastic . . .

I would say that they are not "mostly plastic" at all.

Skoda did send me a list of the parts in Leather and the pats in Faux - there is plenty of leather in there.

Because a lot of the people who are spec'ing new cars are not spending their own money? ie company car drivers etc?
