VW pop-up Rear view camera in OCTAVIA

Featured Replies

Would it work, to install a VW pop-up rear-view camera in a COLUMBUS (RNS-510) equipped OCTAVIA? Like the one in this link:

http://www.kufatec.de/shop/product_info.php/info/p1453_c26_VW-rear-emblem-camera---Retrofit---VW-Golf-5---complete.html

My concern is related to the pop-up assembly install. In some other link, it shows in detail the install in a VW. There I see that the rear boot VW emblem has some kind of hole already in place. Is it the same with the SKODA OCTAVIA COMBI 2011?

This is the link with the VW install:

I'm going to say no as octavia badge is fixed. On the golf the badge is the boot unlock mechanism

Thank you for your input. In that case... I will stick with this camera (night vision + ccd + sony):

Regarding the controller, what does the forum recommend? I was thinking about this one, but I think it has no help lines displayed on the screen...

What do you think?

I'm sorry if you need a camera to reverse you shouldnt be driving

I'm sorry if you need a camera to reverse you shouldnt be driving

That's such a ridiculously pointless reductionist argument.

HAHAHA... did I mention I need it while driving FORWARD?

Do you need it while going backwards??

Do you need it while going backwards??

If you have a tight parking place in an underground parking garage where your neighbours park randomly their cars you would profit from it! Don't be judgemental!

That's such a ridiculously pointless reductionist argument.

And your point is?

How did we manage years ago without these parking aids i wonder. :dull:

Some people like to have anti lift kits and anti roll bars, some people like to have reversing cameras. The personal benefit each get is entirely subjective

...well, humanity also lived without antibiotics several thousand years. Do you manage without it today?

Reductionist argument fail  . He doesn't says he NEEDS it. I can imagine though, it would be extremely beneficial to some people with mobility problems.

By your logic, let's dump radar in aviation too, after all, air traffic control and pilots have got eyes - at night they've got lights, it'll be fine.

PDC and reversing cameras offer a safety benefit over just looking over your shoulder / in your mirrors. If I'm reversing out of a space and a small child moves from out of my field of vision to immediately behind my car where they're not visible in mirrors, while I glance forward / check my other mirror, PDC / reversing camera would save me hitting them.

My camera has the lines built in, so I think the lines are on the camera not the interface :-)

this is the camera I have

Though it seems to be unavailable at the moment :-(

John

Thank you for your feedback. Is the licence-plate light equal to the light it replaces?

I was looking to this model: SONY CCD + night vision.

http://www.smartauto24.com/rearview-camera/special-camera/rearview-reversing-backup-camera-for-skoda-octavia

Is anyone using it? Also, does anyone know if it has the guard lines?

If the lines are in the camera, how is it possible to bend/move the lines with the steering wheel? Check this out: http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?4864542-Tiguan-RVC-in-Jetta

I found this guy that did it!

I'm guessing he drilled boot to make a recess for badge to sit in. I am interested but the number plate cam with light seems a beter and cheaper option than the £300+ kit which will be vw branded

Yes it is far cheaper, but not as cool.

Right now I haven't figured out how to get the dynamic help guide-lines. Any ideas on this subject?

Hang on! So do you have a rvc installed as your asking about the lines? Thanks

do not have dynamic lines on mine :-(

I also did not go for a night view type as some forums said it was a waste and I have found this to be true, the image does go slightly "grainy" at night but is still very good as the reverse lights seem to provide well enough light for it all to work well.

John

Sent you a pm jjc regarding fitting and connection

I have a SKODA OCTAVIA with a COLUMBUS RNS-510 system. I do not have the Rear View Camera gadget.

What I want is to install the RVC on my car. Therefore I am sourcing the parts. What I want is to have the help lines, if possible dynamically changing with the steering wheel. I have searched all over the web, but failed to find reference to this dynamic lines. Any idea on this subject?

Thank you all for your input so far!

Hi guy, i did few RVC on Octavia II i used RVC from Tiguan without controle module with static line and its no problem. You have to cut bigget hole to 5th door.

In my Octavia i have TV tuner so there was just one chance to retrofit RVC and from VW Tiguan with controle module it was more expensive but no chance to do anything else. There is functions dynamically lines.

few pics from RVC withou modul

Thanks for the photos. It seems a neat install.

I talked today with my Skoda dealer. They said that they had to ask the factory but that thy thought that the factory assembly comes with "dynamic" lines. I'll keep the forum posted with their feedback.
