Retrofitting a Columbus

Featured Replies

Folks my dad has an 11 plate Superb Estate with a factory fitted Bolero. He would like to replace this with a Columbus and, if I feel confident, may fit it for him.

Am I right in thinking that the sharkfin roof aerial doesn't actually handle radio reception as this is dealt with by the antennae embedded in each side window, but just deals with GPS, telephone and as a receiver for the auxilliary heater remote if fitted. Therefore, is there a cable present for GPS if you do decide to have a Columbus fitted?

If you buy the columbus from Ebay, they will usually come with a GPS aerial which can simply be placed under the dash in the centre or to one side. This is dead easy to do and much more simple than installing the proper roof aerial, and will work just the same. Fitting the columbus placing the antenna in the dash should take no more than 10-15 mins.

Thanks Manny, is that aerial on the roof not connected to anything then?

Roof aerial will be for the telephone. It wont have a GPS cable attached. You wont get parts for an option you havent paid for!

As posted, just put the Ebay antenna under the dashboard. Far easier.
