Test drive in vRS

Featured Replies

Hi

Im looking at getting a Fabia vRS so i decided to take the car for a test drive. Went to my local Skoda Dealer and was taken out in one by a sales man. He drove about 2 miles parked the car and then let me drive back. I was a little dissapointed that it was so short and all the driving was on dual carriage ways, none round town. The test drive lasted about 5-10 minutes. Now don't get me wrong i loved the car but i think they were being a bit unreasonable with such a short drive. How can someone get a feel for a car driving down a 2 mile strech of dual carriage way?

What would your advice be?

goto another Skoda garage and test drive another vRS

It is always a tough call really. I was supprised that my dealer handed me the keys and let me go off for 2 hours on my own !!

So if you have a different dealer try them out, or just speak to the salesman and request a 2/3 hour loan of the car. If he argues, walk away.

That type of test driving i used to do when i worked for renault. Bums on seats sell cars, quick spin and out before the broke down or started to rattle or the head gasket go's or something.....

Or just buy one, as i know someone did, without a long drive. I know of very few people who are disappointed, and those that are, usually admit to trying to want a FWD hatch but actually can't cope without AWD or turbo ( a lot of Scooby owners do that).

Keep us posted anyway. I can recomend Clock Garage Derby, but it depends where you are in the country !

Welcome btw :)

I think it may have had something to do with the fact that im 18. Probably thought i was a tyre kicker. Im in Peterborough and my second closest dealer is 40 miles away in Ely so not really an option.

Edit: Thank You!

Yeah

Try another dealer or a car supermarket......minimum test drive should be thirty minutes IMHO

hope it doesn't put you off buying one though.......great wee cars

My local dealer (Station Garage in Ewhurst, Surrey) were great and let me test drive one for 30 mins on all the local coutry lanes. The salesman came too but had no worries on how long and how hard I pushed the car. Go back or go elsewhere.

My advice is this. call the garage up and say i will sign up pre demo, subject to test drive. This makes everyone happy, as the salesman things he is closer to a deal, and you get to drive the car for a few hours on your own, and have out witted a car salesman. On your return sign up, or don't sign up. However i would only recomend this if you are in a position to buy.

Good luck

Andy

Yes, if you let him know you're serious he'll probably let you crack on - tell him you want a longer drive, I see no reason why he should argue. He might have to come along due to your age - not sure how the insurance goes on without.

I had a ten minute test drive in one, it was enough for me to make up my mind and order one, although I would have liked to have had a longer run. Anyway, two months later I had a Vrs to call my own, so the bums-on-seats-sells-cars method worked for them that time!!!

How about the classic, ABC - always be closing.

i should run a course on how to be a chesey car saleman really !

I am 19 and got an hour by myself.

If you can try and test drive at another dealer, ask them whether its still for sale, sound very happy it is and you'l be there as soon as you can for a test drive, when you get there tell them you've only had 10mins before and need something more to the tune of an hour as you need to be sure...

Whether or not someone comes with you is up to them, but if they do dont be afraid to give it a boot, they expect it

And remember they need you, you dont need them, so your the boss ;)

Hope that helps, and welcome :)

Im not yet in the postion to buy as i need to sort out my loan but to sort out my loan i need to know what car im going for. Im almost certain i want one but there are a few questions in my head that a longer drive would answer.

They dont know that you arnt in a position to buy, I've test driven loads of cars (when I've had absolutly nothing to do on a weekend) and have always said if the cars right and we can agree a price then I am in a position to buy today :D

When you get it let me know as I am in Peterborough to.

That prolly explains why i saw a black vRS flying round the roundabout near Homebase the other week!

I think i'll phone them and explain the situation, if they are reputable they should be willing to give me another drive.

Chavyboy, how do you get on with Wings of Peterborough?

I booked my test drive over the phone in advance (1 week), the salesman didn't ask my age, just asked what day/time etc. I asked him if I could have it for 'a long time', his reply was 'i'm afraid you'll only be able to have it for a maximum of 3 hours' I thought he was gonna say ten mins :D not sure if that's any help to you, I guess each dealer has a different policy on test drives, although you're age prob didn't help :thumbdwn:

Ive requested a test drive online, it says they will contact me shortly so when they ring up i will explain that ive had on once before and was unsatisfied with the amount of time in the car and if i could have it for a longger period of time. If they decline i will make it clear they arn't getting my buisness.

Hey jamjar and Chavyboy!

I too live in Fenland! (mini-meet anyone?) I picked up my vRS from Vindis in Cambridge yesterday but went to Wings to pick up some oil (excuse for a drive) and they seemed ok - but I'd certainly appreciate anyone to post their experiences of them up in the review section.

I'm not insured to let anyone else drive, but if you fancy being taken out for a spirited drive, then PM me! ;)

I got offered a 2 hour drive (but didn't actually have it quite that long) by our local dealer with no hassle at all. Unfortunately I'm not quite 18 or 19 any more - lucky young boys being able to have such nice cars at that age eh?

Whole day was no problem, just had to pick it up early and drop it back before closing time. Kinda had no choice as I had to go to work :)
