I pick 'Custard' up tomorrow!!...

Featured Replies

... It's been a bloody long week since ordering it  Anyway, a couple of questions...

1) Does the vRS come with locking wheel nuts? (forgot to ask salesman!) if not, can anyone recommend a decent set? do McGard do a Fabia vRS fitment?

2) Also, a slightly odd question, where abouts are the number plate bolts fitted i.e. towards the outer edge of the plate or nearer the middle? I only ask because i've got a personal plate with 5 characters and I like to crop the plates to fit nicely around the number, looks neater (prob illegal aswell but never had my collar felt for it :D )

Cheers.

Yes it does

and depends weither the dealerships uses screws or sticky tape

Congrats on the new motor...Glad you've see the light and got the new black......YELLOW

lmao, i pick my vrs up 2moro, and again, its yellow!

and i really do think the new black is yellow :D

Mine came with locking wheelnutz, key is kept in the 'toolbox' (bit of an OTT term for it) in the middle of the spare, which is in the boot under the carpet.

There is a group buy thing on the site somewhere but for some reason I cannot get a straight answer out of the guy about which ones to order. Keeps insisting on emailing him direct. I want to know FIRST what I need before handing out my email address ;)

1) Yes - as has been noted above, locking wheel nuts are standard and the key's in the middle of the spare wheel along with the jack. There's little else in the way of tools. Having been spoiled by Japanese cars with reasonable toolkits (Subaru and Mazda), I bought a Land Rover to find virtually nothing. Hence I bought a comprehensive toolkit for that which has now been transferred to the Skoda.

2) First of all cropping a numberplate is NOT illegal though you may have problems:

A) My dealer refused to accept that numberplates could be smaller than standard and refused to put a small plate on the front of my car. I've prepared an AutoCAD drawing showing the minimum size of plate to fit within the regulations but decided not to go ahead with it because I felt the smaller plate would not look right within the standard sized numberplate recess on the front of the car.

B) You cannot crop the plate yourself - you will need to get one specially made up to the required smaller size. This is owing to the fact that the BS reference must still be visible - this is usually placed in the corner and hence would disappear if cropped by you. If the BS reference is not on the plate it's technically illegal and the DVLA could confiscate the right for you to display it (note you only have a right to use the number - you don't "own" the number).

The dealer when I requested that my plates be stuck on agreed that that was how he would fix the REAR plate, but the FRONT plate's surround is curved in plan and he insisted on using screws towards the ends to fix this plate on. Hence if I now put a smaller plate on I'll have to fill the revealed screw holes (with white LED bolts? :) ). My colleague has now fitted his personal plates (having put them onto retention for a period so that he could display a "54" new car plate would you believe!) and stuck the front one on. In the recent high temperatures it started coming off so perhaps it's a risk not worth taking, unless you're prepared for the odd replacement plate now and then.

Although you haven't mentioned it, note that the rear numberplate recess is BIGGER than a standard plate. Hence I got the dealer to put in an OVERSIZED plate to fit the space available - which is also a way of emphasising a short registration number:

You can see the BS reference in the bottom right corner

Thanks to everybody for the advice. I think i'll keep the standard locking nuts/number plates for now, until i get bored with either/both of them :D
