what to expect when picking up new fabia ?

Featured Replies

we are picking up our new car from trancity walthamstow in about a weeks time ,

what happens ? i take it we get a run through with someone ? and how long does this take ??

Depends how good dealer is and what info you need but have a good look round for knocks and damage, bits missing, paper work can take a bit too.

Expect hour could be less.

Then enjoy

As above, really depends on the dealership and the salesperson. Paperwork can take an age especially if you have a substantial amount to pay as the bank is likely to have some form of security check for debit cards.

Make sure you have all your paperwork sorted (ie trade in car stuff, MoT, V5, etc as well as the paperwork you already have for the new car) this shoiuld make it a bit easier and less stressful.

Have a good look round the car making sure it has everything it should. If it is a brand new car there should be an mdi cable and you may get a litre of oil in a nice little pouch.

If it is your first Fabia (presuming this as the mk2 section) don't be afraid to ask about how things work, the salesperson will probably give you a basic and quick run through. Don't expect him to be an expert though, there are many threads on here with some dodgey dealership info.

Overall upto an hour would be about right. Enjoy it and if you forget to ask something or unsure give the dealer a call afterwards or post a question in here.

thanks , whats an mdi cable ? im not a driver , its my husbands new baby ! , no other paperwork except insurence and yes he will be paying balance off with card !

The MDI cable is for the multi device interface so you can connect your ipod or Mp3 players to it if you have ordered it but you only get the cable free with the vRS

thanks !! looks like we will have to order one as we have the 1.4 fabia !!

If it's brand-new, an hour would be pretty optimistic in my experience.

You'll need to sign (and read, of course!) a multitude of documents. They'll try and flog gap insurance and paintwork protection repeatedly and you'll have to sign documents about them even if you don't want them (FSA thing, apparently). APR on finance may or may not be the 7.9% advertised for reasons best known to themselves (if you're taking that).

an hour????

When i picked mine up it was all done in less than ten minutes. TBH, the dealership was preety **** once you`d paid for the car. Found it was missing its trye inflation kit but the sales lady couldnt be arsed to help me as she had buggered off to help someone else (ie someone who hadn`t paid for thier car yet)

Surprisingly (not) they arent a Skoda dealer anymore!

I got my car from warren at trans city. Took about 45 minutes only because an elderly couple were also picking up a car and must have asked what every single switch button and knob did which took an age but i was supplied with plenty of coffee. Only 10 mins for me to do paper work.

Expect a nice bunch of flowers aswell :)

I am not going into the ins and outs of all the relevant details associated with a new car take over.

However, above all else if there is one thing more important than all the rest added together, then for your

own protection make sure you carry out all tests and checks you deemed necessary before you

sign anything and pay any money.

Once you have signed and paid, you are no longer a valued customer, but just a pain up the backside.

Harsh words I know but I have learnt from experience to never rush to pay and sign, that is the

very last thing you should do and only when you are 100% satisfied. If it takes 4 hours, so what , up their

noise with a rubber hose.

Make no compromise in this finical transaction or you will surely be the looser.

Harsh, yes, sensible, yes.

People are too quick to sign documents and sales staff (in general, not just car dealers) almost expect people to blindly sign anything put in front of them. I regularly get confusede looks and stroppy sales teams because I take the time to read all the small print and question them on items which I don't understand or don't make sense. When I got my car the dsocument they put in front of me was actually for a used car in the small print had a disclaimer that they were not responsible for anything once it was off the forecourt. I scored that one out!

That said, I'm sure your husband will be desperate to get out and drive the car and the sales guy will want you out as quickly as possible as he has already made his comission from you.

Allow between 30 to 60 mins if all goes well but don't be in the position where you have to rush because you have something else to get to. It will only take one screw up by the bank (which they will blame on you or claim to be a security feature) for it to take an age. When we picked up my wife's car a while back the security call to the bank took almost 30 mins and they wanted specific details of direct debits and transactions to confirm identity. When I got mine I had various print outs in hand just in case but all they wanted was DOB and password!

Just in case Transcity are like my local dealer, make sure you know where the nearest petrol station is as all I got was fumes!!

If paying by debit card you can phone the bank the day before and advise them of the transaction in advance.

just a quick post to say we now have the car , and we are both beaming with sheer delight , will update after playing with it for a while

Did you get the flowers??

thanks !! looks like we will have to order one as we have the 1.4 fabia !!

Very interested to hear about your experience (or anyone else's) with the 1.4 MPi engine as I'm a bit unsure about the over complication of the supposedly more sophisticated turbo & supercharged 1.2 &1.4 engines.

I'm planning to update my 2007 Fabia2 with the 1.6 engine and can't decide on which engine I need.

Hope you love yours as much as I love mine. As the Toyota Yaris ad used to say- 'you could love it too much'.

I'm collecting my new vRS on March 3rd, the dealer requested full payment (Almost £16,000) three days in advance of collection, maybe it saves them some time and hassle on what is likely to be a busy day.

Therefore, I've decided to go and check the car over next week - a 36 mile round trip, but it'll be time well spent.

As for flowers, I think those days must long gone, this'll be the third brand new car I've bought from the same dealer and I've never even been handed a bottle of car shampoo...

So, in answer to the original question, 'What to expect when picking up a new Fabia?' - 'A new Fabia'

Having said all that, I can still hardly wait to see my new baby! :)

Very true for a lot of dealers now, no one is willing to go the little bit extra to ensure repeat business, having said that we got a bottle of champers when we collected our new Touran from local VW dealer.

Hope it goes okay. However I would never pay for a car in advance, only on the day of collection (other than a deposit of course) If your happy then pay but I wouldnt.

Let us know how it goes.

Only reason I can think of for the advanced payment if is you are paying by cheque or uncleared funds, so they have time to clear. Most nowadays seem to accept a debit card so they get the payment there and them, can be convoluted due to bank security checks though.

There will still be paperwork to sort out on the day but it should be a fairly quick process if the money has been sorted.

Good luck and hope you enjoy it.

Yes I did get a bunch of flowers  and a very nice bunch too ,

handover was about an hour and a half , 2 cups of coffee and we paid with our debit card , just under 9,000 , went through ok

I dont drive , but put it this way the old man has had a smile on his face all day today and it aint from last night !! :giggle:

hes very pleased with the 1.4 fabia , so far , his words , a smooth comfortable ride with a kick to it , loves his cockpit !!

i can see myself being very neglected over the course of the week !!

we both have next week off and will be doing a bit of driving in it .

I made it clear I was paying by Debit Card, but I was informed that it was 'Company Policy' that payment is required three full days in advance. Given that I'm a long standing customer, I was a bit surprised by this as it's not been the case in the past.

Thanks for your thoughts, I'll post up some pics as soon as possible.

If it is company policy then it should have been in the sales contract you signed when purchasing the car.

If not up em'
