16 months Yeti delivery !

Featured Replies

I have just been informed by the dealer with whom I placed an order for a 1.2 TSI DSG last April (2011), that despite having previously been given a build date for last week (w/c 30.1.12), Skoda have moved back all DSG orders to July 2012 meaning that the earliest date for delivery would be August 2012, some 16 months after placing the order.

This seems absurd to me and I have written to Skoda Customer Care for confirmation.

Is anyone else aware of this ?

I now have the 'option' of cancelling the order and getting my deposit back, or waiting another 6 months or so. A third option (of changing to a manual box version) has been offered but I cannot take this up as my wife is disabled and can only drive automatics.

If I hang on, would I be likely to get compensation ?

I am also waiting for a 1.2 Tsi DSG, latest make date given to me last week was week 8 (w/c 20th Feb). I suggest you telephone Skoda Customer Services and see what they have to say.

Thanks for your reply, Expatman.

I will post what Skoda Customer Service have to say.

That's plainly absolutely hopeless- I'm looking at 5 months for a manual 110 4x4 and that's plenty bad enough.

FWIW I would cancel after finding a second hand one--if there are any about!

Edit:I had a quick look on Autotrader and there are 12 available nationally of the type you have on order

I will probably cancel but not until I get a response from Skoda UK.

There are used vehicles available but the newest is 2010 and considerably more than I was due to pay for the one on order. However, a bird in the hand ..... etc !

I used to go to a tiny tyre place in Highbury and was there when a chap came in and asked for a price for a common tyre and when told a price said:

"But down the road they're advertising them for £23"

Old tyre man "Have they got any in stock?"

Chap "No"

Old tyre man "The ones I haven't got are £23 too"

I suspect you have driven such a hard bargain that they don't want to do the deal!

JCP: The same thought had crossed my mind, particularly as nobody else on this Forum is aware of similar problems elsewhere !

Wow! Over a year, and its not even a diesel.

Probably need to offer dealers a performance bonus - after a hard bargain (like an autoebid price) if they get you the car within 2mths you'll pay them an extra 500, and 2-3mths 250, and 3-4mths an extra 100. :)

Good idea !

The "delay" was allegedly down to the non-availability of the DSG box.

Thinking about this I suspect that SkodaUK will tell you to "contact your dealer" - they won't want to get involved in an argument between you and a dealer! Perhaps you could ask another dealer for a delivery timescale and compare that?

Thanks Yetiscot.

Urghh...... there are 11 available from Skoda Dealers - two of them with less than 100 miles http://www.skoda.net.r66.co.uk/Results.aspx

Yes, many thanks for providing that link.

My reference was to the Autotraders list mentioned in an earlier message.

However,my comment about them being dearer than what I had negotiated remains true.

It might be worth giving them a call though. That June 2011 Yeti with 10 miles must be causing an ache to the dealer's overdraft ;)

Yes I certainly will.

Makes you wonder where the vehicle has been for the past eight months.

Maybe you should delete the diamond-studded dash and elephant skin seats or find a different dealer. emoticon-0131-angel.gif

I have just checked my order (6 May 2011) with UK Car Discounts, and they are still hopeful of a delivery date of March - but still have no build date...

However if you look at their website, they have a lot of high spec' Yeti's with upto £3000 discount. Some are ready for delivery, with others in March.

I was wondering whether to change my order for a MORGAN! - I beleive their delivery times are faster than Skoda Yeti's :D

Hi Saber;

Reluctantly took your advice and deleted the diamond-studded dash and the elephant skin seats (really preferred the penguin skin seats anyway) but it made no difference so I cancelled the order and ordered a nearly-new SE Plus from a dealer which I hope to pick up in the next week or so.

Skoda UK responded to my email by stating that current Yeti DSG orders are NOT being turned back and have a 14 week delivery estimate.

Who is telling porkies ?

Hi timtrv,

The Euro VW models are very much different in the way they drive than the so-called equivalent US models. Still, the DSG is sluggish in the US Golf, Jetta and especially the Passat. I have a weird medical condition so a manual transmission is hard for me, but I would take it over a DSG unless it was with the Euro spec 'larger' motor. My dream car is the 4x Yeti with 170 TDi as that has enough power to make the DSG really sing. Unfortunately, it was about Euro 8k more than the 110 TDi we ended up with. All that said, I'm a picky guy when it comes to vehicles but I do love the Yeti in almost every config other than the smallest of motors.

I drove a new Jetta with DSG and it was a complete dog, searching constantly for the right gear while on city streets. Just like my pre-DSG Passat (also a dog) it searches too, just a lot more. Personally, I don't think VW quite understands automatic transmissions. To this day, I use the sport (S) mode from a dead stop and then I tap it into drive (D) afterwards.

Hi Saber;

My wife is disabled and cannot drive manual boxes. We have had the DSG box before in a SEAT Altea and a Skoda Octavia and it worked fine, but maybe we have been lucky ?

Clearly the dealer had sold more than thier allocation. Which is a bit naughty IMO, they should have told you in advance how long the wait was going to be.

Our 1.2 DSG was ordered mid-October and built mid-January, exactly when the dealer told us.

Initially UK Car Discounts said the delivery would be December 2011 (but not guaranteed). This then slipped to March 2012, an extra 3 months to wait. Because they are an online company, Skoda do not tell them which Dealer the car will be sent to, until the number plate details arrive from a Dealer. They then arrange for the car to be delivered to your home. I have said I could collect it from any Dealer (as I'm retired), but they were not too keen. Apparently Skoda don't want people who have bought online to share the "retail experience"!! I want a few Dealer fitted options before delivery, so I'll see what happens when it arrives...
