Bump (from Will) Jason have you got details when the ring is open as I really wanted to do it as it was my birthday prezzy

hmmm so what else is there in Poland that's on the nearer border?

Klodzko in Poland is only 199km away. Probably worth doing that instead, is it just me that wanted to goto Auschwitz?

Will, I really want to visit Auschwitz too and it's on my list.

Terezin isnt a huge place and TBH you get more out of the visit if you take the tour and then wander around youreslf taking it all in. If your that way inclined it will have quite an impact on you emotionally.

If you want to tick Poland off the list of countries youve been to in the car how about this as a suggestion.

Visit Terezin in the morning (you dont need more then a couple of hours to half a day)

Then head north to Liberec (about and hour and a bit from Prague) which is pretty close to the German/Polish boarder and shoot into Poland for an hour or so. Liberec isnt that much further from Doksy/Ceska Lipa/Mimon so you will find your way there easy enough. Liberec: http://www.wattsengl...ish-liberec.pdf

On the way back stop for a rest in Liberec and go to the Auqa park: http://www.centrumba...nment/aquapark/

The SpaceBowl thing is a laugh and theres plenty of large Saunas etc to have a proper chill for a couple of hours.

the bone church tigger! lol...

and octymark "any member state of the european union" so I assume that includes poland ;)

I would assume the same but I know from personal experience it's best to check all of Poland is covered.

I havent done the bone church yet but know plenty of people who said its defo worth a visit. Seen lots of it on TV too.

Sam & Can my co-drivers are now named on my insurance company's files, I will have a "statement of fact" along with the reletive cerificates incase any particular countries police want to check driver names against liscences ect :) they also know which countries we will be in and when.

*note to self: must also inform my credit card company so they dont go wappy and stop my card! lol.......

didn't see your above popst there octymark whenI wrote the last one, but just been onto my insurance company (re the above remarks) because I wanted something official with my co-drivers names on it ;) poland is covered. :)

they didn't "need" but wanted to know anyway , what countries we would be in / travelling through, on what dates.... not ness she said, but nice to have on the records.

sorted!

Great, hope all those additional drivers havent cost you much.

If I could have got more time off work I could of hitched a one way lift and spent the week with you guys before meeting up with the family for a week. Somehow I dont think I would get away with that but it's nice to dream, lol.

didnt cost me anything... anyone over 25 is covered comprehensively... I just wanted them named so i could have it on paper if asked by foreign police....

I've come to the decision I might spend the day anyone is travelling to Poland, walking into the City Centre, taking in the sights and sounds, and generally getting more and more drunk on Plzen :D Definitely a day the mongrel will remain in the hotel lock-up for the duration.

We already have 2 days for doing that. Sunday and Wednesday

Then there'll be a third probably :D

Or have a drive to Plzen and take a tour of the wonderful world of PIlsner Urquel: http://www.pilsner-urquell.com/in

If you do go out drinking get well off the beaten track in Prague and enjoy some local Hospoda's. Prices will be a lot less and you get to try out your Czech and have a few beers in a proper local :-)

I'd like to visit Plzen this trip, maybe on one of the "free days" - only about an hour down the road?

Finding the off-beaten-track pubs can be tough without a specific location. You end up in the main stretch and then just get pestered to go into strip clubs (and worse.... or better? :D) by the locals.

Go in to old town square and from the far corner with the English and Irish bar basically go down that road and stop off in any bar that takes your fancy. Then when youve had a few more beers and feel a bit more confident jump on the metro and pick a stop or two out of the main tourist bit get off and go to a proper local. Down that same road theres a nice underground restaurant called Kosicka (little goat) thats nice for food, been there a lot of times and its very good (havent been for a year so hope its still good).

Or go around Mala Strana (check spelling). It's a safe neighbourhood as it's where most of the Embassy buildings are but the prices arent that cheap.

Actually the Hotel where you are staying has some good local pubs around the back streets. Just walk towards the TV tower and you should be alright, Zizkov is a nice enough area (a nice park too but watch out for all the dog ****e).

Just have a go at ordering in Czech and you cant do too much wrong. The locals will appreciate you are trying even though they will answer in English (if they can speak English). It goes without saying to keep your wits about you or dont carry too many valuables/money just in case. Also the common trick of the local Gypo's is for a group of girls to come up to you and give you some attnetion, they WILL pick pocket you. If they prentend to be prostitues and you say no dont be surprised if they get very aggresive or jump on your back. Dont worry about a pimp or anything it's just a diversion to pick pocket you. Tell them where to go and keep your hands on your money.

Certain tram routes are full of pickpockets too but follow the same common sense when visiting any capital city and you will be safe.

Remeber the pub culture in Czech in general is to go out later in the evening and have a table reserved. It's very very rare you will see a Czech stood up drinking. If they dont have a table they will go else where. The more local the pub and less touristy you dont have to pay for your drinks before hand. A tab will be started at your table and you pay when you leave (just a small rectangular piece of paper with the price at the side and a gate bar system of recording what youve had).

Youve all been before so nothing will surprise you but its the perfect chance to be a bit more daring and get off the tourist trail :-)

Will have you arranged anything for certain days yet, like the factory etc?

Jase, are you taking back seats? Lol

Jase, are you taking back seats? Lol

Ahem, no. The back seats is a 10 second chuck in job. All the seatbelt crap isn't. However, if it comes down to us being the only lift around, sod it, I'll bolt it all back in again. :)

Lol ok. Seems most people are taking 4 per car, so at a push we could squeeze one more into two cars? I only really want to get to the factory, which isn't too much of a long drive, is it? I don't recall it being....

Will has two spare seats. I'm sure he will be accommodating. If anyone is cramped in their cars I can easily take a suitcase/bag to ease the space in someone else's car. :)
