I have two I got from freecycle and they are usually total pants.... NTL TWR500. Got a pair - look like this. But in my experience of using them, they are very crackly and lots of background interference.....

I suggested to tigger we get cb radios! £60 for a car kit off eBay, runs on the cigarette lighter, and comes with a magnetic ariel!!! When we ate done, back on eBay!!

Can CB radios and 2-way radios pick up each other? Is it as long as they both use the same frequency/channel?

Then anyone can get a CB radio and if you don't want the extra arial you can get a 2-way radio.

You also get US PMR's which run on a diffrent frequency and a bit more powerfull but are ilegal in Europe

I have been testing my two walkie talkies and they seem to be working OK. You need to ensure you don't speak too close to it as it proper crackles at the other end.
