Bump (from Will) Jason have you got details when the ring is open as I really wanted to do it as it was my birthday prezzy

3 mill IS legal limit in Germany, and fire extinquisher IS required in the czech republic... if not then the infor I have on travelling abroad from both Skoda UK and the instructions with my headlampadjusters are just lying....

I will cover both.

yes for the factory and museum please tigger :)

Cologne is also a place where you can spend a couple of hours on the autobahn. Standing.

So if you are having breakfast, do it just before you get to Cologne.

Mostly the entire ring around Cologne (Köln) will be full of traffic between roughly 07.15-09.30.

And it doesnt matter at that time, whether you go over the A1, A3 or A4.

Thread depth legal limit is 1.6mm in Germany. For winter tyres to qualify as winter tyres it is 4mm, but then

again you could drive winter tyres up to 1.6mm and still drive legal as long as the roads are clear and dont have

winterly conditions.

They both are wrong mate, some countries require a fire extinguisher like Belgium for example and lots tend to get them as a result but their legislation only requires vehicles registered there to carry one etc. 3mm on tyres is a good thing to do if you change them around that depth but its not a legal requirement yet (will be at some point) SUK would be no authority on sourcing such information google and the actual governments concerned via their visitors information would be a lot more accurate The AA's EU driving advice has historically been full of mistakes they have revised a lot of it in the last 10 months and its a lot better now but still not 100%. See post #62 I posted a link there which is credible (from TISPOL) and states no Fire Ex.

With the beam benders I just use the little levers in headlights personally as I use the stick on ones in work cars (German cars) when travelling in the UK and they will be cooked on in CZ with headlights on all the time and can be a git to remove. In the 18 odd months I have had the car I have never had a problem with Police a simple piece of paper or a clip board held in front of lights will show the beam pattern to satisfy them but you would not be blinding anyone in the first place to attract attention.

hahhaha that's a point an early bit of frost during trip and you should have winter tyres on. I was talking to the Marechaussee recently and they covered something I didn't realise about winter tyres in the Netherlands, I was told that while there is no legal requirement to have them on yet like in Germany if involved in an accident where it is decided that having winter tyres would have prevented or been likely to prevent it you would be liable for not having taking all reasonable precautions! I have to dig threw some Dutch law ref that in work when I get a chance as I like to not just take someones word even a Police officer. Have you heard that before magic???

Hi Fubar, never heard of that in Holland. But as tyres are getting wider and more speed resistant, they will also perform far less in winter.

Could be if you drive a car shod with wide 19" or more and are driving in winter with summer tyres on. The bigger the wheels, the more winter

tyres are necessary.

Sorry for OT.

I agree fully on that will fire on my winter alloys as soon as the temp dips.

French breathalysers are absolutely stupid I think its the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard of. I have about 200 of them in work as a result or being ready for Nov and it was like trying to buy plutonium (getting that many). For those who really want them as you appear to be travelling by DFDS I can confirm that their ferries have been stocking them on board for about €6 since June ish but for 9 miles and before its even being enforced....

we are traveling through belgium, we need a fire extinguisher..... anyone give anything helpful instead if pedantic for our trip ? why say we dont need a fire extinguisher when we do?

Me and Leanne for factory tour aswell.

I live 15km from the Belgium border and drive there several times a week and manage a fleet of vehicles which do also and another fleet of vehicles in Belgium and in Germany as a matter of fact. I know exactly what the requirements are and am only trying to help. As I said above the information online differs from site to site. But as I said its good to have and I have one myself. Now what I said above was not pedanticI pointed out how it is because obviously you did not know however laws are very pedantic in their nature. This would be pedantic but also 100% fact! Good luck finding a fire extinguisher that meets their requirements in the UK before you go.

The

fire extinguisher must be of a Belgian Government approved type, so indicated by a seal

‘B’ stamped on the extinguisher. An identical fire extinguisher from another country, but

not containing the ‘B’ seal, will not meet the requirements of the law.

There again since its only for vehicles registered in Belgium they will not be fussed on whats in a GB registered vehicle.

Warning triangle: is mandatory, fire extinguisher is mandatory solely for vehicles registered in Belgium.

Also your sealed unopened first aid kit for Germany to be marked 'DIN13164' (Deutsche Industrie Norm) and of course your reflective vest meets and is marked with 'EN 471' oh and for your warning triangle 'ECE R27'.

As I also said the AA has had a massive update to their equipment list this year (April) and it is now accurate for France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Austria and Italy (I have not checked the others). Sites with incorrect information tend to not advise you to not take something you need but say its required when its not entirely true. The big issues were with requirements for countries being used specifically requirements for visitors. http://www.theaa.com...y_equipment.pdf

You can choose to ignore me and insult me all you like but all I have still done is provide you with the correct information David, enjoy your trip.

Bargain! :)

Bargain indeed. 9am in Mlada though = one early start after a 1000 mile drive. :D Think we need to arrive, unpack, grab a couple of beers and food in the nearby bar and get some sleep for that 7am (or earlier :D) start.

PS: If it helps today I plumbed in precise favourites in to my Tomtom so there is no "is that the right address" etc etc. I also have the Hradcany airport plotted in (Correct name for the Mimon airfield, as I found out a couple of days ago)

Is there still an itinerary? I know there's bees discussion about dropping certain things and adding certain things..... Just wondered? ....

I think post 2 has a rough idea although still one day to fill, final full day there, also Will's B'day. And doubt over Poland for a lot of people, including myself. :)

I still want to do the church of bones! :)

I still want to do the church of bones! :)

I suggested this for the free day, the Wednesday. :)

On an up note, it seems the nasty symptoms of my gastro bug have calmed down this morning, and I am more confident of a safe trip on weds/thurs, where the only stops will be for fuel/food/wee, and not what I've been suffering with. :D
