Mileage of our 1.8T's and major issues?

Featured Replies

My 4x4 just passed MOT and 100.000km - I was wondering how much it will last.

What is the mileage of your cars? Major issues?

If you haven't already then get the waterpump, cambelt and tensioners done. Other than that you've nothing major to worry about on that mileage.

Mine has just rolled over 80,000 miles. In it's life the car has had:

Full coil pack change

Cambelt and tensioners at 76,000 miles (when i bought the car)

Dump valve changed at 76,000 miles because the diaphram had split pre-remap (bailey fitted now due to remap)

Rear shock absorber rubber gaiter/sleeve split last week so I guess I'll be changing the rear shocks soon.

My 4*4 has now covered 65K miles now ..... the engine / gearbox / Haldex still feel great , although the cambelt / water pump are down for replacement .

However the " car " does float and roll a bit more now at speed over our Welsh roads .

Now that the car is almost 4 years old I am wondering as to whether it would be sensible to replace the shock absorbers .... if you do the old fashioned test of pushing down at the corners of the car and watching the resultant bounce they appear to be OK , but I would imagine that this test only reveals as to whether they have actually failed as opposed to have " worn " .

I don't know too much about the technical side of cars but should one replace some of the suspension bushes as well and do coil springs " wear out " ?

Wot do the informed and wise think ?

227,000km on mine :D

You're just showing off Jon. ;):D

The Haldex ECU could be a problem for 4X4s. A number of members - me included - have had a '65535 - Internal Control Module Memory Error' with the controller (PN: 02D 900 554B). Mine was replaced under warranty with a later version - ie 554D.

Mine is now up to 78K miles and the clutch will have to be replaced as it started slipping last week. Apart from a cambelt change 8K miles ago there have been 40K+ miles of troublefree motoring.

I wont mention the small things though ;)
