Just purchased a Octavia elegance 4x4 20v 1.8t. Think this is going to make a good start to a reasonably fast and cheap road/track car! Any advice and tips would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome. I'm considering getting an Estate Elegance 4x4 1.8T when I buy my next Mk1 Octavia, should be a bit nicer in the snow and better potential for tuning than the VRS was... and interior is easier to keep clean!
