Pumped Up Panda

Featured Replies

My Nephew was on a visit the other day and made a remark about the similarity Between his Dad's Panda and the Snow Monster (Yeti) that was parked along the road. "That Skoda looks like a pumped up version of our car" After our chat I have to say I agree to a degree with his observation. The Panda they own has roof rails and a raised ride hight being the 4X4 version And a similar window arrangement to the rear. I wonder if anyone else share's this view.

Now I come to think about it, yes it kind of does.

It even has those front fog lights in a similar sort of position.

My mates wife drives one (the cross 4x4) and she loves it, specially in this weather. She says she is going to keep it till it falls apart.

How long will that be I wonder?

Only joking mr fiat boss ;)

Something I noticed in April 2010 too. :giggle: See this thread:

Not wishing disaster on you, but my wife also had a Panda 4x4 (the Cross version) which she (we) liked in many ways except that during the two and a half years she had it, replacement torsion bars, rear shock absorbers and differential seals were needed (under warranty) and having covered only 14000 miles was told at its last service it needed new brake discs at the front and drums at the rear - which was going to cost around £600! I got her a good p/x deal on a one-year-old 4x4 Suzuki SX4 instead!

I too noticed the similarity between the Yeti and the Panda 4X4. The Panda (all variants) is actually very reliable and routinely does very well in European reliability surveys; strangely it has never caught on to the same extent as the Punto/500 in this country.

As a keen skier I have also noticed that virtually the entire postal delivery system of Alpine Europe seems to depend on this little car it really is rather capable off road and remains to this day the only car ever to make it to Everest Base Camp.

It’s not just Yeti owners that have noticed the similarity though; check out the CAR review on the 2012 my Panda with the 85bhp TwinAir motor. The conclusion actually mentions the Yeti.

Actually quite fancy a 2012 Panda when the wife chops her fortwo this coming October.

But only if the Citigo doesn’t cut the mustard for some obscure reason.

My wife bought a Panda Mylife soon after I bought the Yeti. She thinks it looks like a mini-Yeti. :giggle:

"Fix It Again Toni"?

"Fix It Again Toni"?

Que?

Que?

"Fix It Again Toni" = Fix It Again Toni = FIAT :giggle: (But it really stands for Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino)

Thank you. Bear in mind it is the end of the week, I'm getting older by the day, and I've just been to Tesco (30 mile round trip from here in a beguiling mix of freezing rain, floodwater, fog and occasional snow - no probs for the SM, of course).

 Though to be fair, I've had five Fiats in the past; an original Panda (bought new for £2999 in 1981 from memory), three Unos (including 2 Uno Turbo) and a Strada. All were completely reliable except the Strada which had endless problems with air locks in the radiator/cooling system leading to frequent overheating and two new head gaskets.

No problem! Least it is better than what Lotus stands for: Lots Of Touble, Usually Serious. We are due snow again tonight from around 20:00! Yippee!!!!!!!

You may well mock Fiat and the little Panda but in this REVIEW the Panda is a better car than the Yeti on the dirty stuff!

I don't mock the Panda: before the troublesome one mentioned here, my wife had another that was entirely faultless for three years. I think we just had one of those unfortunate cars second time around: it can happen with anything.

:giggle: That is the VERY article I linked to in my post #3 above! :giggle:

I am going to stick with the Yeti, it is getting up over 23k miles now, has been mud plugging up at the farm and did me proud in the snow, after owning a couple of other 4x4's including a Defender, Shogun and an old series 2A, the wizardry under the Yeti is brilliant, as stated a beefier tyre choice would make a massive difference but the Dunlop SP01's that are on it perform well as an all rounder.

Maybe a muddy day is needed for Briskoda Yeti's, any ideas on where?

The mockery is very much tongue in cheek. I've seen a little 4x4 Panda on the hills round my way (t'Pennines) making all the big 4x4s look pretty silly this past two winters.

Do you think this might be too much for a Yeti LINK

Funny but I was thinking about the Panda and the Mini Countryman similarities around the rear side window...

The 2 wheel drive may be readily available but try finding a second hand 4x4 cross.

It's more difficult than it seems as owners a reluctant to sell so they are very thin on the ground.

The Cross is very scarce, I know someone that was after one, hens teeth .

Shame they stopped selling them here; did consider one for the wife when you could order them but a fabia was cheaper and more to her taste.

Oh saw a real rarity in the village at the weekend, a Mk I Panda 4x4 :o last time I saw one of those was about 12 years ago in the Falklands.

Regards,

TP

I certainly got a very good p/x price for my wife's Cross. Our Fiat dealer doesn't know when the 4x4 version of the new Panda will arrive here, nor whether there will be a Cross equivalent of it.

But that was only ever 2WD......
