MOT due and EML and EPC lights on

Featured Replies

Hello All,

The MOT is due on my '07 VRS petrol at the end of this month. I have had the EML and EPC lights on the dash for the last 2 weeks and have noticed no adverse effects on either performance or economy. The diagnostic on this was "code P0601 (16985) Engine control module". I am looking to sort the lights prior to the MOT, but if I don't will these lights being on affect the MOT verdict?

Thanks and Regards

From 4th Jan 2012, any warning lights on the dash are now an instant fail. CEL, ASR, ESP, ABS etc, if any are on its a fail. The lights must also function as per design, so you cannot simply disable the LED/BULB.

Thanks Mannyo - shows how much the local dealer knows! They said the changes re: dash lights were coming in in April!

The fail lights are/will be, ABS, ESP,SRS, Main beam, rear fog lamp, indicator (if no audible warning), PAS, Hazard and tyre pressure monitoring. The engine management and EPC lights are not and will not be part of the test. EPC is electronic power control and monitors the drive by wire throttle.

The bedding in period is given so that testers can get into the routine of testing the all new items, these new items will come into effect in the spring, possibly on 06/04/12 or 20/05/12. The bedding in reason is an excuse, the real reason is that they cannot test these all new items until the relevant legislation has gone through

I have an airbag light on as i have a bucket seat and omp steering wheel.

Had the MOT in January and the guy told me to cover the light on the dash with a sticker and all will be ok :smirk:

the new rules are pants !!!! and this is coming from a mot tester !!!

towbar electrics must work aswell if fitted.

i was under the impression that the engine light was part of the test.basically if there was any light that didnt go on when it should and off when it should,it was a fail.

they should be checking that the light comes on in case it has been covered.

if its 7 pin then the plug has to go in....it does not have to work.....if its the euro plug the lights have to work on the test unit....if you use the 7 pin converter cable then you test it as a 7 pin .....crazy crazy rules ....

VOSA has extended the 'bedding in period' for the new items - see http://www.dft.gov.uk/vosa/repository/Special%20Notice%203-12.pdf
