Real World MPGs

No more than £17k inc satnav

CR170 seems to deliver better fuel consumption than the CR140 based on several previous discussions on here, and I love the fact that it will take me and SWMBO 2000 miles there and back across France to the Alps a couple of times a year (averaging close to 50mpg, cruising at 80mph), loaded up with all our ski gear, quietly and effortlessly. The fact it also performs like a 'hot hatch' on the twisty stuff is a bonus.

ps ... no speeding points B)

I bought my wife a TDI 170 Elegance Yeti with sunroof (waited 8 months for the roof), I drive a Octavia VRS 1.8T bought in 2002 from new. I like to go fast so when I picked up the Yeti march 2011 I have tried a few times but I cant seem to get it over 120 MPH, has anyone managed to get the 125 claimed?

I cant seem to get it over 120 MPH

Cross-wind? :giggle:

You tried to hit the top speed when you picked the car up?! :drunk: Dont believe in running her in then?! Not sure the fact that it 'only' did 120 and not 125mph would make me like a car any less to be honest but then again, Ive never managed to get the advertsied top speed from any car and the only chance I ever get to try it are the rare occasion when travelling in Germany or being on track.

After 2000 miles of my wife driving the car it needed a blow out and I have great faith in modern engineering. I love the car and have no complaints. I average 45 MPG long term and have had 35mpg towing average over 120 mile trip with a 5 metre caravan on the back. I have never had a car that has not hit advertised top speed my Octavia exceeded it, but would like to know if anyone has hit the 125.

Found on Youtube - it s a140 TDI but still made 200km/h (~125 mph)

Only had my 1.2TSi since March, 663 miles todate.

I see no great importance in the top speed, as it would be highly illegal on the public road in this country.

Of far more interest is the 40 to 60mph capability, and that I find is excellent.

I take it you must live in Germany?

Or you have deep pockets?---don't do this in France it's 1500 euros on the spot and a driving ban on the spot!

I too have the 110 4x4 and it goes plenty fast enough for me in normal use so I don't see why so many go for the 140 and 170ps cars. I suppose if I was pulling 2 tons of caravan I might have considered more poke. ( I also have a Senator and a Jaguar which will do 140mph so I am plenty used to having high performance).

Because not only is the CR170 quicker, but it uses less fuel!

Oh! Yes! About 1.5 mpg sometimes, if you are lucky! I forgot.

Probably other folks don't have access to as many other cars in the garage though... the point of the Yeti is it is "multirole". And of course the higher output engines are more about "getting to speed" rather than the speed one drives at...

I have other cars in the garage and I still bought the 170 4x4. It's great fun to drive. :)

Glad I went for it now as it really is fun to drive With 3100 miles on the clock I've averages a real world 47mpg. Very happy.

Like the bigger brakes too.

I've just got back from a trip to Norfolk where I averaged 55mpg, and I wasn't hanging around - 70 (ish :giggle: ) mph on the dual carriageways/motorways and 60 (ish :bandit: ) everywhere else. Commuting around here (up and over the Pennines, then a bit of the inner city) I'm regularly getting 45mpg.

Over the last 21,000 miles I have averaged 37.4mpg

I don't have other cars in the non existent garage......

I am happy to say that as I'm getting out of London now, my fuel consumption is improving. It is still 6mpg off Skoda's claimed 43mpg combined. In fact the urban mpg is my average.......

I do hang around, as in general i have found it rather difficult to drive faster than the car in front (even if it is a Toyota :giggle: ).

Having owned a Yeti 1.2TSI for 19months now, i am very impressed with the fuel usage.Around town i can get 35mpg but on a recent trip from Manchester to Weston Super Mare, i got a fuel figure off 48.9 mpg! excellent

I did this by sticking to the speed limit (not always when overtaking) and using the cruise control. The car was packed with camping equipment ,so had a lot of weight in the back, this engine is superb....when i come to change it next year i would like to try the 1.4 TSI or might even go for the diesel.

First tank of fuel through my 110D/2WD recorded 48.3 on the matrix and 44.5 when I worked it out with a calculator ;) That's about 60% motorway and some stop/start stuff at both ends. Some 25% better than my x-trail that'd do about 35 on a good day. At the current mileage I do, that's about £1250 a year saved on Diesel.

Quite happy this morning
