My Yeti does seem to be geting more abstemious- a drive from Dartford to home was completed in 4 hours flat, average of 64 and 50.8mpg on display.Cars are supposed to be thirstier in winter but in v cold conditions was extra mass of air giving me super-intercooling sort of thing ? No really high speed but rarely less than 75-low 80s on speedo. Not bad for a 1500kilo 2 litre diesel?

Hi,

I think that the problem in cold weather is just when starting the engine, that's when it consumes more until it reaches its optimal temperature, and this takes by far more time in cold weather. Once the engine is hot, its consumption depends on other factors. So it's not strange you get a good mpg in a long trip with normal speed and without sudden speed changes, and not using too many electronic devices or A/C.

Kind regards.

PD: Just signed on, my signature is still in my to-do list, sorry :S

Our greenline is getting worse with the cold weather going up the M3 it was getting low 40's with cruise control on at 70mph and the missus on the way back got low 50's must be downhill on the way back to Southampton Lol

Funnily enough though at 50 in 5th it will get 80 mpg just don't get anywhere

Over the past week my milage has really dropped off with the freezing weather i think il be lucky to get 450 miles to this tankfull in the greenline compared to well over 600 per usual. ive had the heated seats , fogs and demister on for long periods and she takes forever to heat up.

My SM economy has noticebly dropped off this week by about 4mpg down to about 40mpg. That said it does sometimes throw in a good score on cold days. Tonight i drove to Derby up the A38 from Lichfield and managed a very healthy 61.7mpg on the maxidot over about 22 miles. By the end of my 64 mile trip (mainly A road) averaging 50mph i recorded 56.4 mpg much better than my 44mpg normal figures. I have been told my engine management computer resets itself between 2-3000 miles. Can anyone enlighten me what this does, is it noticed when it happens and what it does to economy?

Here in Germany where its been well below freezing for the last few weeks, my 110 2wd has covered 480 miles and gauge is now just under 1/4. Range to go is showing 120 miles, however its currently -10 here and the engine is (obviously!) cold. I have not noticed a drop in economy despite the cold weather, its now done 8000 miles and I would say that if I brim it, I get 500-530 miles before refilling, usually when the range gauge shows 60 miles to go...
