I'm convinced the Superb is Skodas best looker !

Featured Replies

Yes.

I've seen some really smart Superbs around. Great colours and spec as well.

The front & rear light clusters look very nice, especially with the lens washers built in.

It's a big car, ok, but out of Skodas line up, it's probably the best reason for a family with an Audi or VW to switch.

Are you refering to the twinhatch or the estate though?

Personally I think the twinhatch rear end looks ugly, the estate is sooo much better looking IMO.

Agreed :)

Agree with Gizmo there, the combi is much better but then again we are biased!!!

Wonder if the combi was designed first and the hatch after?

Both to be honest. If I needed a big car (probably the estate) then that's what I'd go for. I do agree though, the estate is smarter.

If being real honest, skodas design in general is quite dull. There aren`t much surprises and maybe that`s why ordinary people, like me, buy that.....compared to fiat/alfa/lancia, for example, the difference is huge.

I thought that at first, but know, I think the superb looks amazing. Classy colours and 18" wheels looks B)

That just shows how different people are. I think that nice wheels and colours can`t make a car look amazing if the basic car is not much to look at.....it`s a good car, but dull..... :p

I must disagree, the colour can make or break a car's appearance. And as for the Superb's appearance, I think it is great, both the Estate AND the Hatch, including the rear end !. They both have presence on the road, with quite an " aggressive " frontal look, there is an air of quality about them which is confirmed when one opens a door, so much heavier than with other makes in similar or even higher price-band. The shape may not be eye shattering but certainly not gorpy as are so many cars now. Why the trend for the body/waistline to rise as it goes back on most cars some almost to the roofline escapes me,usually with a stupid weirdly shaped window stuck in as a last resort?. The Superb is a very acceptable normal shape.

I really like the Superb's air of 'respectable anonymity' it can quite happily sit next to the bosses Range Rover in the company car park or lurk unmolested outside my flat in the less desireable area of town.

Only the Superb II estate is a looker. I really don't like the saloon at all :(

However, the Mark I Superb saloon is a design classic

feel the same, didnt like them until I saw the estate advert on tv for the first time, was going to be my next car when they were 4 years old and can be got at a good price, however the 407 blew up and got a mkI. I may still get a 2010 estate in 2014 though, as its about the last diesel without DPF.

Mirror, mirror on the wall, who the best looking front and rear end of all?................It has to be the Octavia emoticon-0140-rofl.gifemoticon-0140-rofl.gifemoticon-0140-rofl.gifemoticon-0140-rofl.gifemoticon-0140-rofl.gifemoticon-0140-rofl.gifemoticon-0140-rofl.gif

Sorry, but the Superb was a bit to long and would not fit in my garage, and no it could not be extended at the front or back.emoticon-0105-wink.gif

I really fancied an estate this time round but the vat free deal on the diesel twindoor convinced me that the estate is not four and a half grand better looking!!

Same here. I like the look of the estate, but did not need the extra space and with the VAT offer it had to be the twindoor.

I think the twindoor only works in lighter colours, I have gone for Steal Grey. Where the estate works in any colour.

With the VAT offer I found it was closer to 5k more for the same car as an estate!

When I ordered my estate mk2, I said to the dealer the only thing I didn't like design-wise is the rear light cluster. It looks amputated as it does not stretch into the hatch door. He told me the original drawings had lamps that did in fact continue on the rear door, but chiefs in VAG gave thumbs down. "Buyers who are that into design should buy an Audi", was the answer to the designers. Don't know if it's a true story, but it may well be. Now that I've had it for a few weeks, the design has really grown on me, I even like the rear end of the car now :)

Of course I ordered the badge less grill cover and a carbon badge for the rear, the logo is simply awful. Don't understand why they didn't change it when they changed absolutely everything else on their cars. When you make a leap in quality and market position, you should have a logo that reflects the change.

I'm going to stick up for the saloon/twin-door/hatch thingy, not a big fan of estate cars. Just my personal opinion - I realise it won't be popular round here!

Don't understand this - could you tell me more about carbon badges please?

Thanks

Ha ha! Aren't we a fickle bunch???? I went into my local Skoda dealers at beginning of February to take a peak at the Yeti - I tow a caravan with a VW Tiguan at the moment ans I like to change my cars every 3-4 years. The Tiguan is a "superb" towcar and I was wondering if the Yeti would be big and heavy enough for the job. However, although I liked it, the wife was not enamoured at the look of the Yeti.

When I told the salesman what I wanted the car for he asked me "Did it have to be a 4x4?" - to which I relied yes (I thought he was referring to the Yeti/Tiguan type of 4x4). I also told him load carrying space was also important as we tend to take everything plus the kitchen sink when we go off in our caravan.

Imagine my surprise when he took me to another part of the salesroom to show me the Superb Elegance 2.0 Tdi 170 4x4 Twindoor. I was blown away by space, quality of build, interior quality etc etc....and when he showed me how the boot operated I was amazed.....and THEN he said "And by the way, you don't pay the VAT"!!!!!!! My God, what a deal. Taking into consideration the OTR price AND the showroom car extras (front parking sensors, tinted rear glass work etc) its a saving of just under £5000............

I have to admit to being a bit of an impulse buyer when it comes to cars and as I was so impressed I agreed to a test drive (admittedly it was the Estate I drove but who cares????) - I was so impressed that I agreed to buy the showroom car as the colour (Steel Grey) was fine. I need to have a towball fitted but that's not really a problem.

My Tiguan in a 2008 2.0 140 TDi SE - extras I had to pay for included leather upholstery, cruise control, winter pack and towball. Suffice to say the 2012 Skoda will have all these (and more - e.g built-in SatNav) and its STILL £3000 cheaper than the VW was three and a half years ago!!!!

Needless to say - in hindsight admittedly - I have searched the internet for reviews (written and video) for the Superb and apart from those immature ****s on Top Gear, I can find no review that DOESN'T state the Superb is "superb"! I can't wait to get my hands on it in two weeks time and I just hope it lives up to all the excellent reviews. According to the Caravan Club, its one of the best towcars around and as i'm getting the 4x4 version I hope it will be a win win outcome.

Time will tell.

John

I love the look of my twin door, especially now it's lowered and agree the light colors work best

John whatever you do make sure the towbar wiring has been done correctly otherwise it will not interface with the Columbus system the way it should, other things like the rear parking sensors, rear fog light, alarm etc may also not work as intended.

It is possible to have all the above done correctly but many, dare I even say most Skoda dealers do not seem to be able to grasp this, some even say using 'scotchlocks' is Skoda's idea of acceptable wiring
