hello every one

please help, currently run a octavia 2.0T VRS (60 plate) mainley used for school run and a good burn up at weekends, due to a change at work i can now get a car with my Job (with out swearing on this forum a nice spec audi Q5 S-line) so biggish car not needed for the lady of the house anymore, so was looking to maybe swap into s fabia VRS as there seems to be a few good deals going around at the moment , so couple of questions

1 - is Fabia VRS any good, size wise ideal for school run as down a narrow county lane , is there a major diffence in perfomance and is fuel consumption much better

2 - have spoken quiclky to a salesperson who said if i have it before end of month they can do better deal then for next month ..??

thanks all

Size wise ive had my a few mates and luggage in ther car no problems ive even had the back end of a ginnetta race car in there with the seats down no probs.

Economy i get anywhere between 35 and 45 mpg depending on my right foot's mood

And performance i more than most people require

I have both, an octy vrs and a fabia vrs, the fabia just gives me a huge grin everytime i drive it especially playing with the paddle shift, the cabin space is decent for a small car likewise the boot, dont think you'l b dissapointed with the fabia!

I have ...er.;.. compaired with another forum member in a petrol octy vRS from standing traffic lights upto motorway speeds, and there was absolutley nothing in it.... almost exactly the same performance if you ask me... and the DSG rocks.

if you are worried about space, have you considered the fabia estate vRS? even though I have the hatch, I still think the estate looks better...

fuel economy, ? burning it 30-35mpg, a general a road in traffic drive 45 mpg... if pushed for fuel economy, I can get above 50mpg ;)

edit: as for the salesperson, they have end of month targets, so negotiate hard! lol.. plus I believe there is a £500 price rise on the way for the fabia..

at the end of the day, I dont think you will be dissapointed

For a small car the Fabia is very roomy upfront. If you have kids under 12 then they should have plenty of legroom in the back. Boot is very practical and you'll be able to use all the space 99% of the time.

Fuel you'll easily get 43mpg if you cruise at 65-70mph. Quicker on narrow roads you're looking at 35mpg.

Agree with Shark though. Estate should be considered as it has more space and not much compromise if any.

Just want to add my bit of input.

Just before the arrival of my 3rd boy I was running a Fabia vRS for about a month. My other 2 boys are 8 and 9 and not on the short side, found it to have ample legroom for both them and me (I'm 6'2" and like to drive in what would be known as the sleeping position).

Boot wise was perfect for what we needed it for. Due to the arrival of the latest edition boot space is now sparce, buggy weighs a ton and is the size of a Mini, so have now jumped in to the Estate for a week or 2 and the boot is holding up well.

The price increase on the vRS was effective at the start of the year. Build times are currently long if you are looking at an exact spec, but Skoda are producing the odd hatch and estate if customers are flexible and do not want to wait.

If you are expecting it to be a "mini Octavia" then you will be dissapointed. The overall quality is inferior to the larger car especially the interior. Also in my experience, the ride is much firmer on the estate version compared to the hatch (..no I don't know why either..)

It is certainly a characterful smiley face sort of car though.

I thought it was me just thinking that the ride was a bit harsher in the Estate!

Would it be slightly stiffer to take the extra boot space in to account?

A big  for the car though.

I have a Fbia vRS Estate and must say its Fab

Loads of space, looks cool, goes well, returns decent mpg for its performance - fairly inexpensive.

What else can you get brand new for £17,500 that's as fast and practical?

It has more boot space than a 3 series touring too, only slightly narrower than an Octavia.

the Fabia hatch has almost as much boot space as many medium sized cars (corrola, toyota auris, etc.), it's a practical square shape too. the estate boot has more space than a honda accord estate.

the honda small mpv car, can't remember the name, has a big boot but i don't think there's a hot hatch version and its expensive but holds value well.
