Sorry but another Oily question

Featured Replies

Sorry fellow forum members, I have read loads of posts on here about what type oil, etc, etc.

and have come to believe that for my 54 MK1 octavia 1.9 TDI I will need to use the oil best bought from the dealers.

I have been offered FREE UNOPENED 25lts of this.

Shell RIMULA 15W40

ACEA E7 E5 E3

I'm guessing this is for big diesel engines, any knowledgable oil folk out there like to say this is ok for a tdi engine.

or say that its just not worth the risk, and i'm a idiot for even thinking it .

I see no VW aproval...

rimula is a diesel spec oil

its what we used in the rail industry - prob ok for a basic diesel engine - wouldn't risk it in a pd

also may be a bit think for modern engines being a 15w40

personally i wouldn't, although if i was running an old diesel banger into the ground i'd say go for it

15W40 is rubbish...I used that in my 1984 Citroen, horrid car

No modern car uses oil with 15W in front. My '89 V8 Audi runed with 0W40

15w40 isn't rubbish that oil is just a commercial oil i work for renault trucks and thats what we use and with predictive servicing you can go up to 100k km between oil changes far to long if you ask me but thats what they are designed for

wait! you said trucks! ok but we are talking about cars, with engines reving up to 4500 rpm (diesel),unlike ~2500 rpm like trucks
