General performance question

Featured Replies

Hiya all,

Up until yesterday I thought my car was pretty quick lol, standard 2003 vRS, with just a forge recirc valve, panel air filter, and cat-back exhaust.

However I got to drive another vRS yesterday and now I'm confused!

Mates new vRS has a couple of mods (not sure if it is mapped or not) but when I drove it I was blown away by the responsiveness. Foot down at 2krpm in second and it's spinning the wheels up.

Mine drives nice and smoothly, no surging, no obvious signs of boost leak, clean tb, proven recirc valve & n75 etc.. but in comparison it takes a fooking age to spool up and get going.

Is this genuinely the difference a remap makes? (if his car is indeed mapped) or does it sound like I have sub-par performance?

Any thoughts appreciated,

Andrew.

are you sure your mate didn't have slick tyres :giggle:

In a normal 180bhp vRS you should be able to get wheel hop without much effort on damp tarmac, in 2nd gear.

this isn't a signature of a good car BTY, its testiment to how little traction a vRS has.

best thing to do is go down to any local garage with a decent diagnostic scanner and get them to plug it in see what fault codes it throws up if any that will be a pretty good indicator of any problems and yes a remap makes a huge difference with response and overall power.

Do either of you have boost gauges or a copy of VAG-com?

My mapped VRS will manage to spin up the wheels in first but grips in second. I think that's more down to the tyres though. So it depends! In the wet obviously its similar to urinating into the wind in 2nd gear.

We both have avon zv5 on the front with decent tread, and mine def has no codes as it was in the skoda garage on tuesday. It was spinning the wheels but the speed definitely picked up quicker when driven correctly.

Hopefully we can find out today if it is mapped or not.

I can spin the wheels in 4th

on snow

Sounds like quite an aggresive map your mate has on his vRS if it's responding like that. Might be more entertaining, but not actually that good. Smoothness within the mapping is the key with the vRS.

Henry hasn't finally bought a vRS has he? He was asking me about them just before I left...

(I used to work at CTT)

Sounds like the other car is remapped. I found it to be a considerable change too.

Yeah a mapped vrs is in a different league ! So driving a standard one back to back with a mapped one will have you reaching for your wallet. Speak to Shark who will be able to sort your car out so you too can have a big grin on your face.

Yeah it is Henry's vRS - rather a nice example.

Looks like I'm gonna have to start budgeting for this remap then!

Glad to hear Henry finally saw sense after all these years of dull Focus ownership! With the amount of abuse he gave me for taking a Skoda to the Nurburgring with him I'm going to have to wind him up now!

I'd recommend Shark in Mansfield for a remap.

Shark might be convenient as my 'rents are in Notts. I presume you dont suffer from any of the 'my car surges after remap' and such issues? I'll chase up with Shark to find out what the options are there then.

Shark have sorted the boost surge issue on lexvrs's Octy. And I'm chuffed to bits with their map on mine.
