Stereo

Featured Replies

Hi,

I want to put a new stereo in and take the old one out. I quite fancy a CD/DVD player with a motorised touch screen display. I've found one on ebay, but I don't know what the dimensions are of the Skoda Stereo to compare this to the one I'm inetersted in.

The one on ebay says that its " Install size - 185(L), x 170 (W), x 50(H)mm."

Can anyone please let me know what the dimensions are and if this will just slot right in?

Regards

Don't laugh, but I've found one on Ebay for £135. It's a "D1302 7" LCD CAR DVD Player MP3 Touchscreen USB A4 RDS". It's more of a gadget type buy than anything else really because of the motorised touch screen dispay. I'm not that bothered about watching DVD's, it more for the pluging in a SD card, USB stick for music and possibly using the Blue tooth for my Blackberry as it has a built-in microphone and sound via stereo speakers. I'd say my budget was no more than £200 tops.

Bluetooth will not work very well, these cheap chinese units are setup for left hand drive so the Mic placement is closest to the UK passenger. TV Tuner is analogue only, so with digital switch over almost complete will not pick anything up. I also suspect the longevity of the flip out screen, and it will only be a matter of time before it stops folding out / in properly.

With these units you usually get what you pay for in the end sadly. I would save up and buy a double din unit from Kenwood or Pioneer.

When you say 'double din', does that mean two seperate units i.e. one being the stereo and then underneath would be the second unit that houses the screen?

Ok just thought i'd ask cos i'v got a full alpine set up from my old mk1... Motorised 7 inch screen, plays CD, DVD, MP3 amp, speakers 12inch sub, wiring etc its a few yrs old now (perfect condition) BUT not touch screen or SD card or ipod capable... So probably not what your lookin for.

Double din means its double sized ie its twice as big as your standard stereo. You'll have to take out the cubby hole above the stereo and your stereo creating a double din sized hole for it to fit in

Nope double din basically means the hole in dash is double the depth you have at present, like you see in most modern cars these days... Take out your coin tray and hey presto you'll have double din...

ok, I think that's going beyond my budget. Think I'll search around for a goood single din. thank you...

Go into octy mk2 forum and browse/search til you find a pic of a dash then check out the stereo, thats double din...

Like mannyo says, you get what you pay for, if you pay 135 for a unit with loads of spec IT WILL have limited performance and life span... Visit your local car audio specialist or halfrauds an have a play with whats on display, be warned though you'll probably end up blowin double your budget...

A standard Symphony Cassette head unit's dimensions are:

width: 180mm

height: 50mm

depth: 160mm

At the back of the HU there is a rubber mount/support which sticks out an extra 20m and sits into a plastic framework. This framework can be cut away if mounting a deeper HU.
