Dectane LED black/smoke tail lights - I finally gave in

Featured Replies

THE FINISHED ARTICLE CAN BE SEEN HERE

Some months after mObov's lead with his red/smoke hatch versions, I finally decided to take the plunge

I thought long and hard about whether or not the black/smokes would be too dark and not transmit enough light, but in the end I needn't have worried

So, finally, here they are

I'll prepare myself for the barrage of "chav" comments, but TBH I couldn't give a flying one, because I like them

Have to admit,i do like that

You've left your index viewable in the 3rd pic.

Quite like the lights btw. Haven't you just changed to FL rear lights?

I really would like a black estate, thanks for reaffirming that idea

That's my Brimma plate - not for road use

Yes, because I kept bottling buying these......never mind :(

I like, very much! Don't think it would look good on my silver one though. ;)

Couple of questions:

1) Is the bulb the indicator or reverse? Where's the other? (Wonders why not everything is LED)

(Is that the left indicator in the bottom pic?)

2) What about bulb warning? (The scurge of LEDs)

3) Where did you get them?

(Maybe they'll do them in silver too :D)

Cheers

Simple solution......buy a black one

1) Is the bulb the indicator or reverse? Where's the other? (Wonders why not everything is LED)

The bulb is the reverse light.....not sure why

(Is that the left indicator in the bottom pic?)

No, that's still the standard facelift light - I've only done the right one so far to show a comparison

2) What about bulb warning? (The scurge of LEDs)

They are supposed to be plug and play, without a bulb warning (difficult for me to tell though, as I already had a bulb warning showing)

3) Where did you get them?

(Maybe they'll do them in silver too :D)

I did a search on Google and it threw up a link to Amazon.de

They do them in red/crystal (basically similar to standard), red/smoke (a tinted version), and black/smoke (dark, as the name suggests)

Hope that helps :)

Like them! Can I ask what the build quality is like? It also looks like the do something to prevent the bulb warning issue, which some have bought with the lamps. It will be interesting to see if this is needed.

Good work there mate!

I saw the title and was going to lay in with the Chav comments, BUT

It looks really nice.

Good job Brimma

My loco is coming up to 2 years old, might pamper it with some bling and Revo 1.

I was going to steal lots of back chip-sticks from Halfords......

Sadly there were no black ones when I was looking. Well, there was one, but someone had super-glued stuff to the dash and then someone else had removed it....badly scarring the dash. :o

Hope that helps :)

Yup, surely does. Cheers :)

Build quality seems pretty good - not too sure about the seal though, it's a bit 'floppier' than the standard one, so hope it does it's job

I think it's the Chinese ones that suffer with the bulb warning issue, as opposed to these

Very kind words - I'm sure it's only a matter of time before someone uses the dreaded 'C' word though

Looking good.Nice job

Something different emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Must say, I like them in night/operating mode, but not so much in the daylight.

Lovely.

Really suit the car emoticon-0148-yes.gif

I'm the other way inclined :giggle:

I like then in day light, but not sure about the amount of light they let through.

The relfectors on the bottom of the bumper need turning down..... way too bright

They look good. Wish there exists something like that for a Roomster.

Chavtastic

I was a bit sceptical about these when I say Bryan's Facebook post about getting them, but after seeing them fitted to the car last night, they look really great emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Hook, line, and sinker :)

Bry they look great

I think they suit the car very well.

I would have the same concerns as you and they do look too dark but if you say they are ok and are comparable to normal lights thats good enough for me ;)

In fact when I have some spare money I would like some too.

Would love to see them in the daylight. Hope to make it to the next snipe meet so if your in the JPS i'll have a look at them.

Great Work B)

Not chavvy just........a bit..........Halfords Clio!

Worth keeping an eye on those metal cased resistors - see if they get hot or not. If they do it might be worth paying attention to the routing of cables to avoid melted insulation!

I would probably buy these if they looked OEM - there just isn't any need to smoke lights and I reckon "standard" lights would look cracking with "Audi Stylee" led's............

Bryan you've always been a bit "individual" anyway so as you say, if you like em then who cares!

Like them!

They shouldn't throw up a warning as they have built-in resisters (the little copper coloured heatsink things). That's why LED's throw up bulb warnings or play havok with the brake light circuit and cause EML lights to come on because they have very low resistance compared to normal bulbs. A resister will increase the resistance and not throw the car into a wobbly.

Phil

Nice work Bryan emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Better than gold me thinks
