parking sensor?

Featured Replies

Hi

I've had parking sensors fail more than once before and can identify the culprit and fit a new sensor without a problem (something the monkey at Hobins couldn't manage!).

When they've failed before, I've heard the initial 'bip' followed by a high pitched continuous 'beeeeep' that lasted as long as reverse wes selected.

This time however, I get the initial 'bip' followed by a high pitched 'beeep' for about three seconds only. Then nothing - until it goes 'bip-beeep' again. And again. The gap between each occasion being something like 4-5 seconds or so. Is this likely to be the control unit? Where is it? Cost?

I know I should change the system - just need to be happy the sensors of a new system will fit and look right in the bumper.

any suggestions guys?

cheers

Yes, dump them, fit a FleaBay set with colur matched to your bumper. Its almost impossible spot the difference. Clip the wiring into the original conduit for a neat fit. Simple and if a senor does go down you can unplug it and the system will still work. The cost of the originals is just stupid.

yes - the system could do with being replaced. But I was thinking more of suggestions as to what has failed here...

Can you get a diagnostics cable onto it? There are quite comprehensive diagnostics available for the parking computer, including readouts of the individual distances measured etc. If you've had the long tone it will almost certainly have faults logged. You can then by process of elimination (swap sensors between positions) work out if you have bad cabling or a bad sensor or computer.
