Octavia Estate Replacement Of Entire Back Seat Due To Oil Spill

Featured Replies

Hello,

I posted an earlier post on cleaning oil out of my back seat of my 2007 Octavia Elegance, not so elegant now with big oil stain :-(.

To cut a long story short, motor oil slowly dripped out of its bottle, in the recess of the boot, travelling over weeks/months into the back of the back seat, soaking through the entire seat to the surface of the fabric making a lovely big stain in our IVORY coloured upholstery.

There isn't much hope of removing it as the interior is ivory and it is oil. A Skoda dealer has quoted to remove the foam and fabric cover and re-upholster the back 2 seats (directly behind the driver and the middle seat) £490 (just for parts and extra for re-upholstering).

If anyone has any ideas on doing it cheaper or has any advice for me i would be very grateful!

Thanks

Cath

Surely be easier to get a whole rear set from the breakers?

At that sort of price I think I'd rather pay more and get the lot done in leather.

Estate seats are different from the hatch.

Just be carful not to buy hatch seats

Bit of a dodgy subject but would think if you can source a second hand squab I would try asking a dry cleaners to see if they can clean the fabric???

If you can get the covering off with damaging it and are confident in reattaching it ask your local dry cleaners for a quote should be a fair bit cheaper I suspect!.....goodluck

Years ago I got a seat steam cleaned. Seems harsh I know but looked like new after but took along time to dry :(

Why not go and talk to a specialist upholsterer.

I'd say they can probably get the covers off and clean them and at the same time cut you some new foam and remake the rear bench.

I would go for steam clean or jet wash clean with suitable cleaning fluids

To be honest, the dealer will probably be sending it to a specialist anyway and then adding their cut on top. So yeah, best off finding a specialist cleaner / upholsterer and dealing direct.

As it is oil that has been spilt and the seat has been soaked in it for a long time I'd check that it hasn't affected the plastic based foam if you go down the cleaning route. Replacement from a breakers sounds a better option.

Just go for secondhand as you will know all the oil is then gone.

The dealer will just order a new on.
