Camera Comparison

Featured Replies

I dug out my first ever digital camera again. It's about 10 years old and still works a treat, so I thought I would doa comparison between them to see how much has changed over the years.

These are the cameras in question:

On the left we have a Kodak DC280. 2 megapixel and 3x optical zoom. 32 pictures can be stored on it's enormous (at the time) 20Mb compact flash card at full quality. It's a bit slow compared to todays cameras and its screen is tiny, so I always use the viewfinder instead.

On the right is a Fuji S1600. 12 megapixel and 15x optical zoom. It has far more adjustment, features and is much faster. For the purpose of the test, I just left it on automatic and let it do its thing.

So, which of the photos below were taken with which camera? (clikky to make them bigger) The old-timer takes a good photo huh :)

nicely ruined chris

That been said its still easy to tell the photos apart due to the greater colour representation on the top picture and the slightly washed out tone to the bottom picture that was common on cameras of that era.

a better test would have been to take two photos of the same item at the same distance trying to frame them the same.

Yes, ideally it would have been as equal a shot as possible, I have another two that are more equal than that. I'll pop those two up later. It just goes to show that the pixel count is not the only measure of image quality.

Grr, looks like I don't :( I blurred the other Kodak shot. This camera is way before anti-shake tech, so you do need a very steady hand if you are shooting in low light.

Here it is anyway, even if it is not in focus due to wobbly hands. It's taken from the same angle as the Fuji shot.
