ecu removed for remap 1.4 tsi

Featured Replies

I arrived at AMD Essex to have my vrs mk2 remapped which I thought was going to be a straight forward job of 2-3 hours. I'm still sitting here after 4 1/2 hours later because my ecu is one of the newer ones which have to be removed. I wish I had been told about this because I don't think I would have bothered, I must admit they are doing there best to get it right but i'm begining to worry. Any one else had to have the ecu removed.

I believe all Fabia vRS models have to have the ECU removed to remap them

you need to remove the ECU and crack it via Bytebuster or wichever programm/hardware they using .

this is due to TP9 (tuning protection 9) on the new ECU`s

Talking about ECU removal, is it something which one could do alone in his garage relatively easy? I would have to remove it and then re-install it myself in order to be able to send it to UK for remapping as there are no reputable tuners around here.

I believe most new ecu's have to be connected via the bdm port. Not sure if the vRS is one of them. If it is it should be straight forward.

well as long as they put it all back together again and it runs ok I will be happy. It's 5 3/4 hours now and counting.

Is it a generic map or you having custom work done?

All have to be removed, should be straightforward as they are Revo mappers and Revo have codes for the new ecu's.

Just a case of removing scuttle panel and getting ecu out then sending of codes for your ecu, load up with new stuff and boom, done :giggle:

I make it sound so simple I could do it

Think amd could be apr mappers now either that or im thinking of psi tuning

my last car was a mitsubishi with a bosch EDC16 ecu and that had to be removed as it couldn't be remapped via obd port but after trying to crack open the ecu the tuner quit saying he didn't want to risk damaging ecu board.

I believe from 2009 onwards the Bosch ecu's have tricore processors meaning they have to be cracked open as attempting to remap via obd port can cause all manner of problems to modern ecu's.

Good luck hopefully it will work after all they are supposed to know what they are doing

Let me know what you think of it remapped. Mines getting done April

The map I had done was a AMD custom map and it took 7 hours from the time I got there at 8.30.

I'm happy now it's been done but they told me it can take a couple of days for it to settle in or learn. It did take a while as they were trying to get the best map for me and they did not charge me any extra even though it took so long.

Well the final outcome was I gained just over 25hp but only gained 7lb of torque.

There dyno reads Before Remap:189.4 Hp

195.3lb/ft

After Remap: 215.6Hp

202.0lb/ft

So if the dyno is out at least I gained 25Hp

How do you find it now mate, not a very good increase in torque but it'll last longer lol. I was thinking about AMD as they are very well known and they were one of the cheapest

Yes that's the way I look at it,it's usually the torque that puts the strain on clutch, gearbox etc. I can notice the extra power straight away but I was not able to give it a good blast as I was in quite a bit of traffic on the way home. The throttle seems more responsive but I will let you know more in the next couple of days.

How were AMD? I plan on using them or PSI when it comes to power mods.

good results for a 1.4 litre engine and 202ft lb torque is a lot from a small engine.

Well they seemed to know what there doing although mine did take a while, as least they stuck at it and I got a noticeable increase.I'm sure you can get more torque from other remaps but I guess this will be a safe option.

Excellent mate! look forward to a write up after a few miles

I doubt you would get much more torque as its a small petrol engine a Corsa VXR nurbergring is putting out 184ft lb torque and thats a 1.6

Well if that's the case I'm more than happy :giggle:

How much did it set you back if you dont mind me asking? :)

You won't find the Fabia ECU under the scuttle trims, keep looking ;)

It was £299,so a fair price for all the time they put in.

he is a link to a video done by AMD

You will easily get more torque from these 'small' engines!

VRS-Powered has a TMC box and ITG and has 235 lb/ft

vRSy had a shark map with 270 lb/ft and now has a jabba 265lb/ft

This doesn't mean this AMD one is bad i'd happily have it i'm just pointing out that these engines are very capable of more

Corsa VXR 206lb/ft with overboost = lol

Used to be? :giggle:

Where is it now?
