The car is ready, built 2 weeks earlier than planned now what?

Featured Replies

Got a call from my dealer today, to say that the car was built yesterday  and now the transportation side of it kicks in, does anyone know roughly how long this takes. I was wondering as I have a BMW to sell first and I have been a tad lazy in getting the private plate off it and advertising it :giggle: .

Mine was 2 weeks a couple of years ago

Best get plate off now as DVLA are a bunch of halfwwitted incompetents who work at their own pace with no sense of urgency. If the plate is going onto the new car see if the dealer will do the transfer, saves a bucket load of hassle even if he charges for it

The plate is going on retention for a bit, I was guessing the car would take about 2 weeks to ship it to the dealer?

Two weeks for delivery from build is a fairly accurate ball park and I'd do the reg transfer yourself as the dealer will faff about wanting to put the old reg back on the car you're selling, so they can sell it, before transferring your private reg to the new one...speaking from recent experience. It nearly made me sell my reg it was so much hassle this time.

Sounds like you were lucky Mike, or maybe I should have done it myself rather than let the dealer do it as I'd have been really pleased if it had been as quick as you suggest.

Sorry, I can't disagree more. I recently changed SWMBO's Leon for an Octavia estate. Picked the car up Monday 6th Feb, SORNED the Leon the same day, sent all documents for the plate change to DVLA on Tuesday 7th, and received everything back, including new MOTs and authorisation to change the plates, 3 days later on the Friday 10th..

Full V5's arrived the following Monday (13th), 6 days after sending the documents in, and the refund of the Leon tax (also sent in on Tuesday 7th) was received within a week as well.

I was amazed how quickly everything was sorted out. Every credit to those halfwitted incompetents for being so efficient.

Mike

To be fair, I'd say that is the exception, not the norm.

In the past I have allowed the dealers to do it 3 times in total, 2 were Ford dealers then the BMW dealer. The BMW dealer got it all spot in under a week for me, I have to say I was impressed as for the Ford dealers the less said the better..lol

The Skoda dealer does seem capable but as the DVLA office is 5 mins away it would be silly not to do it myself.

I was so shocked when the dealer called me yesterday about the news I forgotten what I ordered, l told him not to bother sending it over if it doesn't have the new black seats

I agree...

Dropped off my paperwork for plate to go on retention on 2nd Feb, all sorted with old plates on new car on 23rd Feb. Longest part of that was waiting for the V5 for the new car to arrive in the post. Far more efficient that in the past!

Mine was 2 weeks also, you could be looking 4 days either side of it depending on whether it's one of the first in the port for the next boat or one of the last (which is what you want). Enjoy your 2 week wait, it's the longest 2 weeks you'll have for a while but worth it! Trust me.

Regarding the private plate I cant offer any advise.

Agree with you Mike.

I have found my local DVLA very efficient and only 5 mins from where I live.

My wife took in the paperwork for my current car and retention certificate and came out with new licence disc and number plate certificate there and then.

Stuff from Swansea DVLA always came through quicker than they said
