Almost a reason not to buy a Yeti !

Featured Replies

I generally keep the Yeti clean and well polished.

Did a bit extra today and done the twice a year 'treat the external black plastic' at the front, rear and sides.

Oh boy what an effort is required to make it anything like presentable!!!

My Honda is a doddle in comparison (it is not textured plastic and has a semi gloss finish) which just requires a wipe to bring the finish back.

I know there has been a lot of advice on what to use but none of what I've

tried has any lasting effect. You also have to scrub the surface to get it

ready for treatment as it attracts dirt like blotting paper.

I currently use Auto Glym Bumper Care but even that ends up as a streaky finish after the first rain.

So SKODA if you are listening when you do a facelift address this issue...

if HONDA can do it, it shouldn't be beyond the wit of man to eliminate the problem!!

Exhausted rant over!!

Try Gtechniq C4, that'll sort it

Strangely enough, having just tried to smarten up the bumpers and side trims, with a very variable degree of success, I was thinking exactly the same. I used a mixture of Auto Chemicals Black Magic silcone spray and Turtle Wax Black Chrome which is a black creamy stuff....and it's better than it was but not brilliant. I also had a Honda before this and, yes, it was easier to keep looking nice.

Can I ask for others recommendations again please?

Googles suggests its available from a lot of places - car prep specialists through to Amazon. :)

I always just wipe over them with Meguiars Last Touch during the final drying process and it seems to leave a good even finish to the plastic. :)

The detailing forums mention it a lot, it seems....it's £25 for 15ml !! and £45 for £25ml !! And even they talk about having problems with it being patchy and having to remove all previous treatments etc etc.

One bloke said his mudflaps weren't evenly coloured - but several hours of rubbing and buffing made them a bit better !!!!!! SEVERAL HOURS! - ON MUDFLAPS!!!

Been to the gtechniq website/other forums and the opinions where mixed on C4.

As it is a 'permanent bond' and the car is not brand new with virginal plastic if I apply this stuff on top of an only reasonably presentable surface finish (the plastic is almost impossible to thoroughly clean) would I seal in and thus permanently lock in a less than perfect finish.

Can it be easily removed once applied?

Most other products I've come across wear off in a very short time.

Not going to try it without more re-assurance and risking even greater problems.

Boot polish, works a treat.

Aldi peanut butter..

That's why I wash it and leave the polishing and buffing tio someone else...

I'd get obsessive. :)

See, dug out pictures of when the Yeti was cleaned.

They guy even took the number plates off!

Spray the textured trim with water before attempting any cleaning method. It's best to remove any surface dirt and debris with plain water before doing a more thorough cleaning job.
  • 2
Apply peanut butter oil to a rag and wipe down the textured plastic trim. This oil works great to leave your trim shiny and clean. Hose off after applying.
  • 3
Put white toothpaste (not gel) on an old toothbrush and scrub the textured trim. This works especially well if you're trying to remove any old wax that might have dried on the trim from the last time you waxed the car.
  • 4
Use a silicone spray and dressing to clean textured plastic trim. This will not only help clean the trim, but keep it protected as well.

Try a product specifically designed to clean textured plastic trim. Some products work best only on smooth plastic, but some products, such as Black Wow™, has been created to clean and protect textured plastic.

Peanut butter.....the best and the cheapest way to clean textured plastic, and it works every time

I too have tried most trim cleaners to no avail, then I found out about Black Wow and ordered some from UKcarecare who are a site sponsor, and you get a 10% discount. This stuff is magic, and I am well impressed with the results......

Another  for smooth peanut butter!

I am going to give the peanut butter method.

As peanut oil (groundnut oil) is a more convenient form...is this a better way to test its effect

or do you need to use smooth peanut butter??
