Octavia 1.8 TSi Silver bullet!

Featured Replies

Just received my Bluefin from Superchips... uploaded it to my Octavia 1.8TSi

WOW I now drive a bullet!

The car has been transformed, the way the car surges forward in 3rd, 4th, 5th and even 6th is incredible!

And I have not even put any V-Power in her yet!

Granted its just an elegance in "Taxi" Silver but with 40mpg, one of the quietest engines I have ever heard, NO timing belt to worry about, no DPF either.... is the 1.8 TSI the car to own?

I bought the Bluefin for MY60 VRS 2.0 TDI a couple of weeks back but unfortunately when it came to getting my remap back I was told that that it had the latest Bosch MED17 firmware and the Bluefin could not upload the new map via the OBD port.

Considered a refund but Instead of a refund I drove down to Superchips who did the remap on site by removing and reprogramming the ECU (my Bluefin now works as well).

So glad I didn't go for a refund...as above, the car is transformed 205BHP & 415Nm torque, altogether a much better drive, would definitley recommend the upgrade!

Any idea how much bhp/torque increase? have you changed the air intake also?

Thanks..

How much extra was the insurance?

Well according to figures up from 160 to 207 bhp

Torque is up from 250nm to 348 nm and extra 75 lb ft in old money

Feels more actually and the engine still feels smooth.... its like a whoosh!

Not sure about airbox mods,,, standard filter should be fine?

Insurance is an extra £200 extra for a 45 year old fart like me! Adrian S Flux

Well worth it.. I prefer the totally bog standard look of my silver Octavia "Taxi " on standard 16 inch wheels, debadged to keep them guessing.

How's your fuel economy on it since the upgrade? I've always been cynical about getting better Eco...

I reset it back to stock after a few days...

I did a few tests and concluded standard is fast enough for me... the remap is just too much power , first gear is useless, you have to be careful in first

The acceleration in 3rd gear is so good you really do run out of road far too easily!

However I just could not justify the £500 remap cost and the £200 extra premium per year on my insurance, for the odd overtaking on the way home from work.

Strange decision, did you not consider this all before getting the remap? It's only the same power as a standard vrs which whilst brisk isn't rapid. Also I don't buy the 'first gear is useless' line that I often hear. First gear is fine in mine and it's Revo stage 1. You just need to have restraint and not bury the accelerator to pull away quickly. Also my days of drag racing away from lights are long behind me so it's not like I need to.

My remap is fantastic. It has added 40hp and 65 lb/ft which makes it very quick but also flexible when you're not hooning around. First gear is not useless - you just have to adapt the way you pull away. Fuel economy is about the same (33mpg around town and over 40mpg on a run) although I do drive quite briskly. And fuel economy wasn't on my list of priorities when thinking of a remap. :giggle: My insurance was an extra £110 (48 years/15 NCB) in May 2010 when my car was remapped.

Possibly "useless" is the wrong term...

The throttle on my TSi was ultra light (STILL IS) compared to the TDI Bora I have been driving the past 2 years ... so I kept screaming her as I pulled away lol!

I drove a Standard VRS petrol and the remapped TSi felt faster with a real surge, a remapped VRs will be faster of course.

Insurance is a touchy subject for me and my profession, currently my insurance is £450 per annum based on my stats.....

Not many touch a "modified" car and Adrian S Flux would have slapped £200 extra on mine so it will be interesting to see any differences come renewal.

I might think about it again.... but the standard 1.8 TSi is still one hell of a Q car and surprises many

Glad somebody asked - I wonder how many people are driving uninsured cars after a remap.......

hmmn, i guess the superchips remap produces more horses from the 1.8tsi compare to the Revo remap, as the revo remap for the 1.8tsi gives you around 35bhp increase thats what the revo dealer over here told me, i m from india.

Thanks..
