  • If that was a misfire, and it was really knocking power back id have expected to see the EML flashing on the dash for a fair few seconds.

  • that is a worry..... I still believe they will just replace it and take the old box away for examination

Update: didn't go well, was in the dark all day so I got bored and rang up. Basically new mechatronics made ***t all difference. So back to square one. However, they have said the sounds been recorded and sent to Skoda and are now awaiting authorisation for new clutch pack and 7spd dsg box. Should be in the car by next weekend (no good anyway I go away for work for a week) sigh!! Been on phone to Skoda finance and new to send email to the finance company and explain I won't have had car now for 3 weeks. Seriously considering ringing the dealership and saying have it back I no longer want it!!! :-@

I had no problems atall with my mk I vrs I loved it too bits! That's why I decided to upgrade now I had no need for a diesel as I have a company vehicle. If I'd of known it was going to do this I would of kept the mk I and maybe never met any of you guys on this side of the forum. I do think I want to keep the car maybe when everything's sorted I can finally get back in it and enjoy it again.

Once they have finally fixed the box i can almost guarantee that you will re acquaint yourself with why you bought the car. I am honestly sorry that you have suffered the problems you have and whilst peolpe on here seem to have a downer on issues, i think we need to take stock of the number of Fabia vRS owners who actually are Briskodians, and how many vRS have actually been sold. I'm fairly certain that whilst some of those out there are experiencing problems, the majority wont be. What i am trying to say is, all makes will suffer problems, and if you are on a make orientated forum, i would expect to hear bad news about the cars in question.

Unfortunately, with lifes of components, if you plotted a graph of the number of failures against time you would find its shape would be similar to a bath, that is a steep decline at the start (due to manufacturing defects), then the failures would flatline and then start to increase towards the end of the components true life. Whilst it is no consolation, the g/box fitted to your car is one of those with a manufacturing defect which i very much hope will not be the case of your replacement.

Keep with it, you'll love it when it is back.

This is what I am sending to Skoda uk and the dealership.

Dear sir/ madam

I am writing to explain the issues with my 2011 (61 plate) Fabia vrs.

After four years of driving BMW cars, in 2011, I decided to go for the diesel Fabia vrs as I wanted a sport hatch that also had a good mpg. In my opinion, the car was fantastic; a well built, robust car, with which I had confidence knowing the Volkswagen pd130 diesel engine was under the bonnet. I was so impressed and thought so highly of the car that I insisted my younger brother invested in a Skoda for his very first car, and he later purchased his own Skoda Fabia.

Earlier this year, my circumstances changed and my limited options pointed me in the direction of buying a brand new car. Having trusted in my first purchase and the vehicle having never let me down, Skoda seemed the only way to go. I travelled to Warrington and bought the new Skoda Fabia vrs 1.4tfsi 2011 on a 61 plate, after driving it two miles down the road.

I couldn't believe my luck as the car I'd found had only done 24 miles, was a  showroom model and had no VAT. Having compared it to the other cars I was previously considering ( Citroen, Vauxhall, VW and Audi), I decided this was it. I did the deal there and then, traded in my beloved mk1 vrs and took the finance option with a £1700 deposit. I was over the moon with my new purchase. I was convinced this was the best car I could get for my money, with the latest dsg gearbox technology and a 1.4 180bhp gutsy engine, it seemed like a great choice.

Then to my dismay when driving it home from a weekend away, I witnessed what seemed like a loud knocking noise when engaged in 6th gear. It felt very peculiar, and as it got louder and louder it sounded like something had gone seriously wrong. Bearing in mind the car had done less than 1000 miles when this noise started occurring, I could not believe the events that were about to unfold. I pulled onto the hard shoulder of the m6, rang Skoda assist who then sent out the RAC. The recovery mechanic could not find the issue on the day and suggested taking it to a Skoda garage. Skoda sent out a technician the following morning who couldn't pin point the problem, but advised an investigation with the gearbox.

This was 14 days ago, and I still have no car! After sending reports back and forth to Skoda, a new mechatronic unit was fitted. I was then told that I would have my car back by Friday 9th March. However, when I rang up to say I would be coming for my car, I was told it needed an entirely new gearbox. This is not something you expect with a car that you have only been driving for 5 weeks, furthermore, with a car that had less than 1000 miles on the clock.

I have been paying a premium monthly rate now for 2 months on the 14th March, yet I have driven the car for only 5 weeks of that time. I believed I'd made the right choice, but currently my brand new car sits in a garage awaiting a whole new drivetrain. I cannot word my disappointment.  I would have never expected a brand new gearbox to malfunction in under 1000 miles, furthermore, the amount of time it has taken to identify and rectify the problem is ridiculous.

I am a registered member of the biggest Skoda forum on the Internet and have been updating the issues with my car daily. I have had many different responses, including ones that have basically told me not to bother with Skoda and to not use them again. I do know that I am well within my rights to return this car and request a new one as a replacement or have a full refund under the Sales of Goods Act. However, I would like to think I could come out of this matter, confidence restored and thinking positively once more about Skoda, as I can understand there is a small chance new parts can have defects.

All this will have a significant effect on my decision to chose a car from you in the future.

Yours sincerely

Mike wilkinson

Nice one hope it helps ;)

Didn't even need to send it, I expressed my concerns today when customer services rang me to see how I was getting on. They told me they will grant a good will gesture and are looking into lowering my car 20mm foc and possibility of upgrading my swing radio with a Bluetooth module. Hope it all works out ;-)

This is the last chance, im away all next week anyway with work so next weeks not an issue. It is very unsatisfactory however, a good thing coming from this is the good will gesture which I plan on getting a few things out of. My girlfriends looking at a 58 fabia htp my brother bought a fabia after he went in my mk1 vrs and my dad is after a octy. This is all set to change depending on the outcome and how far they go to keep me keen. My last car brand (BMW) I stuck with for 5 years and had two cars from them, I'm only young 23 so they better dig deep if they want my custom to continue.

If you have a Genuine Skoda part on Back order a system is put into place called SKOPEX basicly any part that goes onto back order can be put through the Skopex system, when authorised skoda will pay your dealer to give you a courtesy car until the part arrives back off back order, if you want drop me your REG in a private message and i can check the status of the part that's on back order

However it's alot easier to tell a customer "it's on back order sorry" then to actualy go through the SKOPEX procedure which yes can be long winded but from a customer care point of veiw and skoda's point of veiw we should be doing everything in our power to ensure our customers are well looked after with the upmost profession and efficiancy :)
