Featured Replies

Hurl..... Dam I nearly dropped my cup of tea! Oh well, got in touch with my friend who works at the repair centre it's at. He thinks he's heard new gearbox is on the list so far.

so that will not be a problem free one then :giggle: at least it will no longer be a friday car :bandit:

  • If that was a misfire, and it was really knocking power back id have expected to see the EML flashing on the dash for a fair few seconds.

  • that is a worry..... I still believe they will just replace it and take the old box away for examination

Update: Today I was told they have erm instructed to remove gear box and further investigate by opening the actual box. Now I'm happy with the work they are doing but I'm hoping that if the problem is within the gear box that they do not attempt to fix and just replace. Mainly because after this issue came about and progressively got worse the gear changes were no where near as smooth as before this happened.

Wilko they have to investigate, they will replace all inner workings straight swap they will not be able to quantify the damage done, it's saver to remove and replace the whole unit, only problem it may take a while as they cannot produce the dsg quick enough

Update: Removing mecatronics, checking for water on solenoids garage pushing for replacement box and have sent initial report to Skoda. Skoda still not decided on a repair solition as problem is still unknown for the time being.

I reckon they might swap the whole box. That way they can get the DSG box back to their main tech workshops to diagnose the exact issue. This is the sort of thing they need to know in case there is an inherrent issue in all the gearboxes. With any luck its just an isolated incident. Ive not read of anything like this before

My fiend works there, he said they are checking for metal filings or something? If there isn't a significant amount they just might be told to replace gear. Now I'm no mechanic, but surely splitting open the 7speed dsg bo to replace 1 gear is going to take a significant amount of time compared to box swapping. Also they have noticed a difference in gear change, more clunky less smooth which goes in hand with "the problem" whatever it may be. Which is good as I thought it was just me fault finding

you have to give them the option to repair it...

if that fails, demand a new box ;)

I'm just thinking, 1k on the box it breaks. Bodge it back together and then what? Is it good to go or has the lifespan been compromised for a repair and forget.

Update: Skoda rang and told me they were going to update me on car before 17:30. I also explained as the box was so young and only had car ~ 6 weeks would expect replace not repair. Skoda did not ring back.

Update: the garage rang me and said there is a new mechatronic unit going in that should solve this problem. Now I'm a bit scepticcal about this solving the issue demonstrated in my video, but hey ho if it's not right then back in it goes.

Well so far mine has had a mechatroinc unit, a full clutch pack and that did not solve it, now they're fitting a full new transmission .

Similar issue Alan?

As in similar to what my video picked up?

Yes very similar but I also get what feels like a big misfire but it's not from the engine it's the gearbox trying to change gear

I had similar on a Ford Consul (showing my age) Fitter had left the wheel bolts loose. It only happened around 70 which was approaching take off speed in those days.

Update : Should have car back for weekend :-) Skoda said there is a new mechatronic gearbox going in. When I questioned him what he meant by that he said new gearbox and mechatronics, so will have to wait and see....If its only mechatronics being replaced im staying a little cautious but if its the whole lot I'm sure it will be gone.

Looks as if your will have a complete new gearbox after how many miles ?

I ain't sure that's what they mean, but hey Skoda said a new mechatronic gearbox. When I said does that mean a whole new system and he said yes. Seboni it's got 1000 miles on it, had it from 30miles showroom

Sorry mate 1000 miles geesh, however they are fitting a new gearbox so hopefully that will be it, does however make you think " did I do the right thing" but cross fingers you will have a cracker and not a crapper from now on

I hope So I just hope it is sorted for the weeked so I can do a detailing thread ;-)

if you take it back to the dealer and you say the fault occurs at 90 they won't/shouldn't test it.

so maybe an idea to say it happens at 70 to them.

but some dealers read these forums...

u might want to try a different motorway and see if it still happens
