Polybushed dog bone

Featured Replies

refitted a new polybush with bone (red powerflex) for the dervs as i found the yellow one on my last 1.8T really harsh. Still this 1 aint really settling down and its rattling the car the shoot!

How long did it take for yours settle?

I've seen posts in the past on here where they have taken over 1k miles for them to properly settle, a few hundred and it should be bearable though.

My yellow one is getting on my nerves now too. Been fitted for about 800 miles and still no better!

make sure you havnt over tightened them?

my yellow one was ok from the start really but as you can imagine still not as quiate as std. even before I swapped for the fully SuperPRO one it was harder but ok.

the SuperPRO one seems similar if not a tad smoother

how is the red one?

noisy atm! its meant to be softer than the yellow 1 as its made for the diesel. i put a yellow 1 on a derv once and omfgg! i nearly lost an eye!

i got to run to a briskodians house tomorrow to quote him on some detailing work so that will be a near 40 mile round trip for me so hopfully that will help.

i just bought the red one :giggle: not fitted it yet.

I'm surprised,I read on the S3 forums (about 14 pages ) that the red one is good, very tiny vibrations and stiff enough

In a few days I'll fit mine and hope for the best.

had mine fitted for around 500 miles now, and it's all ok once the engine is warmed up, vibrations in the cabin settle down. My only gripe is I have to get out of town before the engine is properly warmed up, and sitting at traffic lights with a rattling cold engine does my head in!! seriously considering just fitting a new standard bush and be done with it......

Fitted my red dog bone yesterday, vibration is horrendous found it to be better with the air con off. Really hopes it gets better old bush had split 66k.

i done a few miles today and i must say it has settled alot. i found a bit of "enthusiastic" driving helped. (and owning a 3.0 v6 alfa spider more than once!!)

i am very very impressed with this car.. very!

Think mine took 500 miles on a yellow powerflex.

I had mine on for 215 miles and still horrid, you can even see the wiper arms as a blur.... PLease tell me this gets better soon, if it dont stop in the 1000 miles im gonna revert back to standard

red or yellow bush....please specify

red or yellow bush....please specify

Sorry Red

does this stop the engine doing that funny almost clonking as you come off/on the power? Running the diesel and its noticeable at very low revs...ie in first gear. Done it in every car ive driven but i havent driven any new cars.

Currently on a little over 100k miles.

Also, i assume the other engine mounts are bushings. Is it worth replacing these also? I've heard the dog bone is the main one to do. If the others are easy though it seems like a good idea.

others are the blocks and you need the whole thing. not many people do them for road use as they really do make the car noisy.

I have the Dogbone mount with the Yellow Powerflex bush in and it was as I said above a bit noisier but not bad. never really changed that much but I had to loosen mine off as I overtightened it. I didnt have a torque wrench at the time.

I am gonna try that one again when I strip my Octy but for the last year Ive had the whole set of SuperPRO bushes that do both ends, unlike the Powerflex one thats only the 2 part one.

edit,

sorry just seen Powerflex do the small round bush for it now too. didnt do it when I was looking back in 2008 iirc

I read bad reviews about Powerflex (too harsh) so I went with the Superpro dog bone on my old Octy and it was fine after about 100 miles.

Well, SWMBO didn't notice anyway :D

i have done about 300 miles since fitting this and i can confirm that its hardly noticable now. when cold you know its there but after 3 or 4 mins ticking over its sweet as a nut.

Now i have the red powerflex bush, can anyone tell me which is softer for the TDI powerflex red or Super pro ?

think red powerflex is slightly softer than the superpro - a bit of forums searching will give you the shore ratings

pretty sure oem is 50 shore, red is 60 shore, and superpro tdi is 70 shore

Well i have looked at the visual difference, the Super Pro has groves into it and the powerflex doesnt, i am just getting to much vibes from my powerflex, now at 600 miles. I was also wondering when people were talking about torqe setting for the dog bone mount. does anyone have a list of these?

Also does anyone know if changing the streering bush with the superpro will reduce/ get rid of my steering wheel vibration at idle. as when in town i feel like my hands are going numb, and the skoda badge is a blur

make sure you haven't over tightened them

This is the main problem I have found. If you over tighten the centre 13mm bolt then the core section of the mount bottoms out on the end plate and effectively the bush doesn't so anything as the whole thing is then a rigid one piece unit.

My red one took about 500km or more to settle..

I think I got some poop in my pants when starting car first time after fitting... vibration was horrible :giggle:

anyone know how tight the 13mm bolt should be, may have ovetightened mine
