Yeti's birthday tomorrow,

Featured Replies

My wife's Yeti, ordered at the end of January and build promised for week 8, is indeed being built tomorrow. Having read stories of long delays on here, before it was ordered, that is something of a pleasant surprise.

However it also means that there are a few questions that I have vaguely promised myself i'd gen up on before she approaches the dealer, that still need to be answered. Advice on these would be greatly appreciated:

She's ordered a spare wheel but doubts that she will be able to get a wheel off herself in an emergency. Does she get the gunk kit as well, just in case. The configuratior suggests that she does but if not not what does she order?

She wants all weather tyres so will be changing them as soon as she gets the car. What would be a reasonable trade in price for the ones that get removed and what's the best way to sell them? If Skoda dealers buy them back that seems much the easiest way, so what would be a decent trade in offer for the old tyres? If we went down that route would the Skoda dealer fit the new ones sourced from another supplier or would they insist on sourcing them and fitting them themselves?

She's had second thoughts about the Columbus Sat Nav. She'd rejected it because it does not have DAB and decided to wait until Skoda introduced something with DAB. However we've seen units for around £500 on e-bay and it seems they would be fine as a stop gap. Are there any specialists that supply and fit these at something close to those prices? Would fitting have an effect on the warranty and insurance?

She's a low milage driver, around 6000 a year, and that makes me think that the 4 and 5 year warranty extensions are poor value for her Does anyone have a contrary view?

Reading this back there's a lot there. I could have sworn that these were simple little things ;)

No gunk kit included if you get the spare wheel, lot of people on here will tell you to call out RAC, as gunk kills tyre.

Never heard of part exchanging tyres, but worth a go, having seen the prices of replacements, i'm sure they would sell well on EBAY etc, maybe people on here even. Try and get best value for new tyres i guess.

I always think its better to wait until nearer the time the current warranty expires to decide on extensions, have had good 3rd party cover in the past, but you never know VAG may extend the standard cover on all cars in that time.....

Congratulations for your new family member tomorrow!

Hi,

as suggested there's no gunk with the spare option, however Skoda Assist breakdown cover will come out to help with a flat tyre. If you want the kit as well try here from ebay

The VW Transporter kit is actually better than that supplied by Skoda and a fraction of the cost from here than you will pay at the dealer.

One or two people have managed to persuade the supplying dealer to replace the standard tyres for all weather tyres; Goodyear Vector 4Season are proving popular. Others have again as suggested, sold them on here if they have freedom membership or e-bayed them, having got them replaced shortly after delivery.

Care needs to be taken with some of these ebay units, some might not be genuine, or strictly from a legit source or be of the correct model for your Yeti.

Difficult to say re extending the warranty, might just be as well putting some money aside for a rainy day or look at some of the third party alternatives but remember to read the get out clauses.

Hi

I had my tyres changed over to Goodyear vector 4season at the dealers before i collected the yeti, they took the Dunlops into stock and fitted and balanced the Goodyears.

All I paid was the difference in cost of the of the Goodyears and that was all of 75p at the time

It would be great if they would do that. I'm sure she won't want to lug the 4 replaced tyres home in the new car.

I would suggest popping into the dealer and sorting out the tyres as soon as you can so the dealer is prepared for the swap over when your Yeti arrives and can do it when the PDI is done.

The dealer finally got back to her, they want £200 per wheel to change to Goodyear Vectors and she'd have to take the the old tyres home with her, which of course she won't do. Thats a shame, because i know she'll not want the hassle of selling the original tyres and will already have found something better to spend £800 on.

£200 per wheel?

That's taking the Michael

They must be fitted and balanced and there are valves as well. Its not just the cost of the tyre!

I get the impression that they can't be arsed which doesn't fill me with confidence for the future.

Vectors were £125 fitted last week on Blackcircles.com.

I am aware of that, having had many wheel and tyre changes in the past, but unless they are charging £75 per corner for valves, balancing and fitting £200 per wheel is taking the Michael

Sorry i should have put it in quotes, that is what they told her.

It is a daft price, no doubt given in the hope that she wouldn't bother.

Its even worse because now that i've checked with her she thinks they were expecting to keep the ones they took off.

£200 PER WHEEL, no way and keep the tyres they take off. They are out for a profit from you I paid £139 for a SP1 when I had a puncher in my first yeti so that would give them around £150 in profit PER WHEEL when they sold your old tyres(they would properly charge someone £200+ for your old ones), they would have to balance them but the valves are new and would not need replacing.
