Advice - thinking about ordering a Yeti DSG

Featured Replies

Hi John, I'm interested in your choice of extras.

I too ordered that model yeti last week- nice choice. I was wondering why you decided to go for the RRP. I looked at the RRP threads on this site and concluded that for me, I would really want the foil paintwork protectors but they come with the car anyway (not part of RRP). Is your understanding the same as mine tin that the RRP offers a glass reinforced polymer sump protector (replacing a plastic sump/engine cover on the diesel) and two plastic wishbone protectors?

I do like the look of the reinforced sump cover but I wonder as to the point of the wishbone plastic trims. I wondered if dirt and water may collect and corrode the wishbone faster than had they not been there but then thought that they might actually prevent stone chips exposing the steel beneath, again accelerating corrosion. Anyway, I'm still undecided whether I want/ need a sump guard but fail to see merit in the plastic wishbone winglet type things.

I had thought originally of selecting park assist but when I thought about it, I thought I'd never use the self parking function but would use the front sensors (plus I like the whole car image in the display rather than rear only. There isn't much price difference between park assist and front additional sensors but I opted for the latter purely for one reason. I didn't like the idea of an automatic steering-motor arrangement that could steer. Being an engineer, I wondered about whether a fault could activate the motor at speed and concluded it wasn't for me, just in case. Plus one less thing to go wrong (admittedly there is that much kit on an elegance that one more thing would get lost in the noise).

Didn't you fancy a spare wheel?

Hi

The RRP has reinforced brake lines and handbrake cable, plus additional panels under the car in addition to the stronger front sump guard and the rear wishbone protection. It's worth it in my opinion.

I opted for the park assist and use it most days, as I often have to park on crowded streets. It is brilliant.

The spare wheel is great, but if you are a long way from home you are restricted to 50mph, which is not good if you are a long way from home when out at night. I have a full size spare winter wheel in the boot, mounted vertically and strapped down. I do have the spare wheel option, but I have removed it at the moment.

Hmmm...... reinforced brake lines sounds worth it alone. Are they sufficiently reinforced so that the 'mechanic' (aka ape) at the tyre fitting centre can jack up an not crush them. I had an instance a while back where they lifted with a jack under the wishbone, only to crease it. Took a fair bit of negotiating with them to fix it. I wanted dealer- they wanted to do it themselves! Settled on an independent little garage!

Over the the oracle, better known as The Plumber for the answer to that.

Hi,

unfortunately there not that reinforced :S

However as I understand it the brake pipes in question are made of heavier gauge material and the handbrake cable guides are 11mm rather than the standard 9mm.

Pipes and cable guides in question can be seen in the above photo of my previous SE fitted with the original spec RRP with a steel sump guard.

Thanks for the nice photo illustrating the differences. For a brief moment I thought I was looking at an orange block textured underbody cover but now I realise just a bit of block paving.

Replies to soupafly's questions.

Re RRP, I think it's largely been answered but on snowy roads with a deepish covering of icy snow ( on holiday and at home). I was conscious of the underside of the car.

I bought a spare wheel for my current Yeti. I've never needed it (touch wood) but I'll take it out.

Regarding the park assist, I wanted front sensors and thought I might as well go the whole hog.

No build date as yet but I don't really want the car before late September/October for finance reasons.

Just thought I'd update.

The car will now be Candy White and I've added heated windscreen and tyre pressure monitoring. Just settling down for the long wait now!

I'm stuck between swapping my Octy vRS for either a Scout, or either the diesel or petrol Yeti, all in DSG so the other half can drive it...one thing that may be a long shot, but has anyone tried fitting a Mountain Buggy Duo in a Yeti? It just fits flat in the VRS (estate), so would imagine it would have to go vertically looking at the Yeti photos...

Well, I've done a bit of a change.

Now that we have a Roomster DSG to replace my wife's M-B A Class I've got to liking the cloth seats and decided I did not want the leather upholstery that comes in the Elegance.

That being the case, I've now changed my order to a Candy White SE Plus Tdi 140 with DSG and the following options:

  • Bi Xenon headlights with AFS etc
  • Cornering fog lights
  • Heated front seats
  • Heated windscreen
  • Hill Hold control
  • Light Assistant
  • Off-Road button
  • Rough road package
  • Tyre pressure monitor.

I also wanted the 17" Erebus alloys which the online configurator says are available but which the dealer says are not.

I've been trying to find out if the Sat Nav in the SE Plus is the Amundsen+, anyone know?

Yikes surely that is going to cost you MORE than just getting an Elegance?! If memory serves there is just £2,600 between them or so and you've added LOTS of options? Not the best for resale value to spec a lower model to Elegance levels as you never get that option money back... But I guess deleting the £1,400 odd worth of leather makes it better. It is when you spec leather on a lower spec car it really starts to not make sense.

Don't add cornering fogs, your SE plus just needs a vcds change to turn them on, waste of money!

I'd have gone for the Elegance and then looked round for a set of material seats personally, even if it took a little time to find them.

Cheap from a breaker or cash your way for someone wanting leather maybe?

I was speaking with the sales man in our local dealer about a DSG Yeti and he said Skoda have a huge delay in getting the DSG gearbox resulting in at least a 12 month wait!

I hope you can get what you want in a reasonable time.

This is the bit where emotion comes in! I'm 60 in 3 months time so I thought that this time I would order exactly what I wanted and not worry about the resale. I had a budget and the cost of this is about the same as the Elegance would have been with the bits and pieces I would have had.

October all being well. We recently bought an ex-demo Roomster 1.2S with DSG. Dealer told us that if we wanted a new one that was not in stock it could be up to 15 months' wait. If we wanted a Fabia with DSG, he said he couldn't take an order at this stage.

John

Funny thing my dad was saying only at the weekend, after years of having leather seats in cars, he now wishes that his Superb had cloth for more comfort.

Have to agree to some extent; makes a nice change to drive our Fabia II FL Elegance, with nice padded cloth seats, every so often.

TP

I never spec leather if I have a choice. Looks great when new but awful (shiny and scuffed) when sell, and hot and sticky in warm weather. Cloth always looks new if cared for. Alcantara fabric would be my choice over leather.

Ours took four months and arrived in March.
