Greenline and rising fuel costs...

Is anyone thinking about getting a greenline to maximise economy but still drive a Yeti?

Assuming fuel costs wont ever come down, the extra 80-100 miles per tank could be worth it.

Yeap, this is one of the reasons that I went for the Yeti. It's a company lease car and the better the MPG the more money in my pocket,as work pays 15p per mile for business journeys.

I decided that I didn't need a 4x4 by loved the Yeti since I saw it a couple of years ago.

The 1.6 TDI engine is excellent. You would not regret chosing the Greenline.

I've only 10 days to go to I take delivery of Betty

I am getting a Greenline leased car on Thursday. Had to consider low emissions, band 6 insurance or below and a good retainable value as well as a good fuel consumption. After all that chosing the colour was my biggest dilemna!!

I made the change from the 110 2wd to the 1.6 Greenline in January and here are my thoughts so far:Fuel economy: there is an improvement but as the car has only covered 3000km so far and is still tight I haven't sat down to calculate it yet. Driving:Sitting at 80k the car sits at 1500 revs in 5th, move to 100k and it sits around 2000 revs in 5th. As Plumber has said the gear ratios take a bit of getting used to after the 2 litre and you lose some of the fun factor here but you get used to it and its still a fun car to drive.Overtaking: There's no noticable difference over the 110.Engine and road noise: The 1.6 imo appears less refined than the 110 and is more audible inside but as I've said before there appears to be less sound proofing. The extra road noise appears to be a combination of this and the Conti Premium contact 2 tyres which incidently have less grip in the wet compared to previous tyres I have owned.Stop/start is excellent.Overall I am quite happy with the Greenline so far. Residuals should be good based on it's credentials however for anyone planning to keep one long term i.e over five years I don't know how expensive it will work out in terms of maintenance of all the extra technology (specialised battery, stop start, brake recouperation system).

Have only driven the Fabia 1.2 TDI CR GreenLine II and I found the widely spaced gear ratios difficult to get on with. Admittedly I only drove it for about a hundred miles but that was enough to say the Fabia GreenLine was not for me.

TP

But the Fabia and Yeti Greenline II versions are completely different animals. I've driven both (owned the Fabia and Mum has the Yeti) and the Yeti version is far superior, the Fabia engine is more of an eco-compromise with it's 75bhp 3cyl engine that you really have to learn to get the best out of. Which really shows the spacing of the gears.

The Yeti's 1.6 has more general appeal with better power delivery and it's much quieter.

It's much less of a compromise for those that like to use less fuel as a car.

Had my Greenline since mid November, regularly get 650 plus miles per tank (now on just under 10k miles on the clock), with the arrival of warmer weather and a swap back to summer tyres I expect this to get to 700.

It's a fun car to drive, overtaking is no problem, even 4 up with a ridiculous amount of luggage.

Had my Greenline a week.

Extremley impressed with it.

MPG started a little lower than I would have expected 48mpg for the first half tank (calculated at pump), but on a new engine not bad, 2nd full tank averaged 52mpg, Maxi dot has been showing a mpg of around 55-63mpg (on trip 1) for journeys since friday. (Trip 2) is showin 53mpg.

On Saturday morning I'd travelled 200 miles from full and the range was showing 550miles. So in theory it shoul dbe possible to get 700 miles from a tnaks if driven economically and don't go above 65mph.

Sitting at 70mph on the speedo it shows average MPG on the maxi-dot of 55mpg. Which is great.

So after 1000 miles in a week I'm nore than happy.

The engine is smooth and quiet, will happy toddle along in 5th at 40 mpg without any issues.

It takes a bit of getting used to the power band and a have to change down on A roads to overtake and climb hills but I'm happy with this as the Yeti is an engaging car to drive.

So the $64m question do i love it. YES. and I'm looking forward to 4 years of Yeti ownership.

Would I recommend the Greenline. Most defiantely.

Summary

I came from an 09 plate 1.8 TDCI mondeo hatch and the yeti feels quicker, nimbler and more planted than the mondeo, with a better driving position and alround visability.

So far one of the best cars I've owned.

We are actually contemplating moving to a Yeti Greenline from an Octy VRS believe it or not. Fuel prices are rocketing and the Yeti Greenline somehow has more appeal than an Octavia Greenline, especially considering you can go for any of the three main equipment levels (SE appears to be very good value). Good to hear some of the economy figures people are getting! :) The Octy has given us fairly good MPG for the engine size (170bhp TDI CR with an average of 45mpg+) but the £30 tax, lower insurance etc of the Yeti is also appealing.

I moved from the Octy vRS via some short term company cars (Leon 1.9tdi, Prius 1.5 T Spirit and a Mondeo Edge 1.8tdi) and I have to say that the best I got from the Octy was 66mpg (on the trip computer) but I was in fully on Granny mode with some slipstreaming of wagons and lots of motorway.

So far - almost 1 week and only 300 miles at 63mpg (trip) - I really like the Greenline - especially in Elegance trim (love the heated seats) and I am more relaxed driving this due to the better visibility, comfortable seating and airy cabin so because of this I can see that it's going to be more economical as I work within the limitations of the engine. Besides if I want some fun then I can take my other half's 120d and turn the traction control off in the wet :D.

In conclusion I very much doubt that you will be disappointed!

In response to Lee's question here

Without going off topic, hows the fuel consumption getting on now Rich?

Very Happy. Maxi-dot (trip 2) is showing 53.2mpg now at 1300 miles and i'm continously getting 55+ (trip 1) for each journey On friday I managed to do a 100 mile round trip and averaged 63.5mpg on trip 1 on maxi dot. So I'm very pleased. I think it is possible to get a range of 750 miles to a tank if I was careful and avoided motorways.

Just filled up for the 3rd time and achieved 55.5mpg for the tank. So tank by Tank the mpg is improving. Have a look at the detials in Fuelly, use my link below.

Starting to get annoyed with my Greenline, still hovering around 6.4L/100km (44MPG).

It was annoying me that much drove to the in-laws at what felt like sunday driver speed up the M1 80km each way and was only able to manage 5.3L/100km :wall:

I live about 1km from the motorway and the in-laws are only about 2km off the motorway on a 100km/h road so no stop/start driving at all. Conditions were perfect, clear day with little wind.

I even gave the car to one of the other lads in work for the weekend and he couldn't break 5.5l/100km (51MPG)

My missus's 2.0TDI DSG 140bhp is hitting 5.3 on the same trip while travelling at a realistic speed i.e. the speed limit 120km/h.

Its bad enough having only 5 gears never mind having to crawl along to try get within a country mile of what the car is supposed to do.

The definition of a Greenline Yeti - Its like a vasectomy......it still works fine but it has no Jizz in it!

I've used that explanation to everyone who's asked me how the car is and anyone who drove it agreed.

I live half way up Tountinna (an MPG nightmare) and work in Limerick - and I have averaged 6.3l/100km for this tank so far (400km) - I drive at 100kph on the M7 (120kph hits the fuel harder) but other than that stick to the speed limits.

I am very happy with that.

I live in Norfolk, where a hill is very seldom seen, using my cruise control on most of my longer journeys and sticking to speed limits, my maxidot records between 61 and 67 Mpg.

My maxidot overall Mpg is 54.2 which, taking in consideration that I live in a city is very good. I filled the tank up last week, so this week I will do it again and work out a true Mpg and see if the maxidot lies.
