FSI, TFSI, TSI, WTF, FFS?!

Featured Replies

yes you are correct it should be a TSI and have a camchain.

I'm not sure if the the answer to what vRS stands for has been agreed.

If I recall correctly, Skodas vRS models are called "RS" in most (all?) places outside the UK. I know they are here, and in Sweden too. I guess that's why the vRS badges look the way they do with the slightly stylized V - the same badge design works both for RS and vRS.

I think it was Ford UK that didn't let Skoda market their cars as RS, so they had to add a V. :)

Definitely got a camchain, I know that much.

It's amazing how people don't know what engines in there own car, or salesman don't know what they are selling

It's more amazing that people don't know which variant of there/their/they're to use correctly when they'd have been shown it as a child.

It doesn't help when you have conflicting bits of paper telling you different things, so it's hardly surprising is it?!

Well, if RS is Rallye Sport, then vRS must be... Very Rallye Sport!! ;)

I'm glad this was asked as i am looking at buying a petrol vRS soon and it was one of the things i was unsure about. Do the newer vRS's have the new 210 bhp engine, if so what age did they start using them? Thanks from a noob :D

The TSi variety in the Octavia is the 200PS or 197BHP version, which differes from the 211PS or 208BHP only by a different tune in the ECU.

It is to keep clear air between the Skoda and VW brands. Can't have an Octavia with the same power as the Golf GTi - simple remap will recover those lost horses plus more

May be wrong, but didin't another manufacturer have a bee in their bonnet about Skoda calling it a vRS? Might have been Vauxhall.

Didn't they have to add the v years ago in the UK, because of the Ford RS cars?

Yes. At my last service (4 year) a month ago, the service manager gave me a wink and said "good that it's got a chain!" (i.e. no expensive belt change needed)

Might not be quite so good if my car is susceptible to that latest gremlin, the jumping tensioner. :(

Some useful detail clarification here guys. Thanks to all who have contributed; it helped me realise mine has a chain not a belt (must watch out for the tensioner though).

May I suggest that despite what the marketing guys believe vRS to stand for I know my 2011 plate Octy vRS is a

Very Rapid Skoda

So am I right in thinking mine ( 2010 octy vrs fl ) is the TFSI ? With the chain not belt? Been told a few different things when trying to get bits and service etc. very confusing!! Cheers guys
