Should I or should I not

Featured Replies

I'm getting a new car and have around 10k and out of all the options I have the Octy VRS ticks all the boxes... But after reading a lot of these posts I'm getting cold feet so to speak !!! Please advise !!

Do it.

go for petrol vrs or CR diesel and you should be fine,

a lot of issues relate to PD vrs as the engine was never designed to work with a DPF (diesel particle filter) hence the all issues

Don't worry. It's a fantastic car.

+1. Go for it!

This is such a myth.

There are so many more PD vRS's on the road and naturally all of them are older than the relatively new CR.

Therefore simple statistics will result in there being more issues reported on forums such as this one.

I certainly wouldn't buy a CR over a PD based purely on reliability.

Fabulous car. You will love it. Do it!

Cheers for taking the time to reply, Im coming from owning an astra 1.6 sxi for the past seven years and although it's been a good car it's mpg is terrible and that's why I'd prefer a diesel.. I also want a car that's fun for me but ok for the kids and the dragon at home ;0)

The dragon wont catch you if you go for the petrol vRS and get it remapped, mine never fails to amaze me!

It's not a myth, you have explained exactly the reason why it's actually true, but the point you also make is fair and I wouldn't necessarily be put off a pd. I actually had a cr for over two years though and it was faultless, apart from being a bit slow. My recommendation is the tsi, very good as standard but remaps really well.

To put a different spin on this, they are good for the money alright but there are better options if you're looking for a hot hatch. If its a relatively powerful diesel you want in that size of car there's very little choice bar one. It's also a hell of a lot more practical than a Focus or Golf or Astra. They are a little wooden to drive but by no means a bad steer.

If you are doing small mileage about town the dpf will eventually get you. If you are doing longer commutes you should be fine. If your mileage is borderline between the two the petrol is a nicer car IMO.

Buy one. i love mine. Petrol TFSi :D
