ap coilovers anything else? (now fitted)

Featured Replies

I never bothered fitting my hosing because over time it will just wear away and make the noise. I dont notice the noise that often tbh.

Hmm, mine is constant if I'm below 20mph, although it's in time with wheel speed.

Speed up, the noise speeds up until it disappears at about 30.

My coilovers have seen a fair few k now, how miles have you done?

I've only had them on 2 weeks!

I'd say about 300 miles with them on so far.

They didn't do it straight away, it's only the last couple of days that I've noticed it.

Well mine are fine now, so if i was you i wouldnt worry about it just rest assured its normal and its nothing that will damage your car and it isnt dangerous

Did it on the way home tonight. Clonked for a bit while crawling in traffic, then stopped, then started doing it again. :(

Car is in for MOT and service next week so I'll get them to check it all over anyway.

I was about to buy some used AP's locally. You've stopped me in my tracks with the clonking!

Strange thing is my insurance said my premium would actually be less with coilovers! Lol

JOM's it is then...

My clonking is with Weitecs

The front springs, simple as that!

If you look under the car at the front springs you'll notice they touch. When at high speed there is no noise but at low speeds and maneuvering speeds they clonk like geese. Very annoying, G-Werkes cured it for me with KW supplied hosing.

the front springs touch what exactly? I have a brand new set surely if they was covered in the warrenty they would supply new ones with this fexi house? And are you on about ap's or kw as you mention both makes in your posts?

Coils on the springs touch each other.

He is on about AP and Weitec as they are the same coilovers.

They will send you some free if you email them - its only a rubbery hose that you slide over the first few coilovers to dampen the noise. Like I say I'm sure over time it will just wear away and be pointless anyways. Just fit them as is mate the noise really isnt that bad or frequent (at least not on mine).

Well the weather allowed me to fit my coilovers this weekend. i got the rear done yesterday with no issues really easy and done the front today wich was abit more difficult on a driveway with basic tools but got it all done with no issues exept my undertray scraping as it was hanging down. cable tied it all up and all ok and i might wind the front up abit anyway after it settles down. took a few quick snaps not the best but will upload abit later. also need the tracking done as was out before and just put out abit more now.

Haha same as me dude. Took left off whilst it was a monsoon! Got it off and bearings went everywhere and drop link was screwed I nearly cried lol.backs went on in an hour or so lol

Cheers mate, i might put front up a couple of threads though as it has to settle down yet. yer loving the yellow, yours looks stunning!

Mine are all the way down on the back and 12 threads from bottom on the front, perfect balance I think.

Now that you have them fitted, any chance you could take a pic of the rear springs and post them up on my thread below? :)

thinking 312 brakes next. I want to get it all ready for a pd150 or hybrid. so got the handeling sorted and defo need better brakes. then save for a new clutch setup and then save for a turbo conversion after i have it all on ready for the new power haha. Also would like new wheels and better tyres, wheels for the looks and tyres for the grip  . been offered a set of 6 spoke tt wheels in gun metal for £80 17x7 but needs 2 new tyres for sure and wont long need the other 2 replacing but i dont know what they will look like.

Which wheels?ones throat ppl pop on or others?sounds good fella you'll love the power lol

They are the chunky 6 spokes. i test fitted them and preffered the standards. might just put a coat of paint on mine for now as they are abit scabby and can get it done cheap and put my money to bigger brakes
