My vRS Detail :)

Well, this all got a little bit out of hand since I last had chance to get on here didn't it?! lol! I'll ignore all the detailing pros and cons comments if you don't mind, I have enough of the arguments on my own website where I have to put up with them! lol!

But yeah, I'm over the moon with the results. As a few people have said, the difference is amazing, it literally looks a different colour to when it was clean before the detail. It's given a much deeper colour, and then the gtechniq on top has given that 'wet look' to the paintwork.

£300 is a very good price for everything that was done, but I would have preferred the previous owner to have looked after the car before me so I didn't have to spend it in the first place! lol! But I have to say, I probably still would have at some point just because I knew before I had it done how amazing the results are, and I knew the gtechniq treatment will make it 100x easier to clean and look after. Which is something I need to do this weekend; clean it!

Thanks for all the positive comments about how it looks, it certainly makes it worth spending the money when other people (not just me, friends and family) notice and comment on how nice it looks. Sometimes I worry whether other people even notice. Not that I care too much as I had it done because I wanted it looking its best for me, and to stop me seeing those dreaded swirl marks every time the sun came out! Hence why I had it done before the summer months (or should I say days? I am in England afterall...)

I can understand not wanting to spend hours cleaning your car, but at the same time, using a wash mitt instead of a sponge doesnt require any extra effort, nor does it cost much more, but your pain wi

  • If you just use a bucket and a sponge(BTW NEVER use a sponge!!!! Get microfibre or sheepskin) then it will be scratched to buggery by now anyway

  • You seem to have some issues...........I'm not anal either matey Anybody who takes pride in their car knows that sponges hold dirt and scratch paintwork You go ahead and use your sponge...

Deary me - what's gone on here?! Not really used to seeing that sort of 'discussion' on here, for this sort of thread - but there we go :)

Anyway, back on-topic. Great results there and really shows Race Blue in its best light B)

Looks like Barry has done an excellent job. When I get my new Octavia (Black metallic L&K 1.8TSI DSG) I'm thinking of taking it to Barry to have the new car treatment including G Tecnic on the bodywork as I want to start as I mean to go on and I feel that this treatment will help. Provisional build week 27 at the moment

Might be an excuse to have a look around Lichfield if there's a bus route close to Barry.

Cheers

Not undetectable and as JRW said effects shine a lot of people get cars detailed as soon as they buy them OP's car now looks cleaner and has a deeper richer shine than it would have on the day first owner picked it up new. So obviously from the responses in here in answer to your question "who cares" a lot of us do! and in response to "get a life people" we like to keep our VRS's in as good a condition as we can nothing wrong with a little self pride IMHO.

It's definitely worth it, especially the gtechniq! My Dad had the new car treatment when he picked up his 5-series and it looked a million times better, got rid of all the "cleaning" they did at the garage before pickup!!

As for the bus route, you might have to walk a little bit from his unit up to the main road, but I think there's a bus stop reasonably close. It'd be worth asking him before hand :)

The car looks nice, clean and shiney.

But, I just can't take 'detailing' threads seriously since that guy with the Vauxhall Astra VXR (I think) took to his car with the clay bars, expensive polishes and whatnot when he took delivery. I think it was in the winter, too, so no doubt one drive would mostly make that a pointless exercise. It was the various parodies of the Vauxhall job that really did it for me, hilarious

I've had 4 of these Octavias, they all get the bucket and sponge treatment, they all get one polish (the day of delivery using some cheap supagard or whatever is available from ebay for less than a tenner :giggle: ) and they all go back to the dealer with not even a mention of 'swirls' or whatever after 3 years.

I see the detailing thing as a hobby rather than an actual requirement. In that sense, they're no different to the people I know who spend all their time fettling their bicycles but hardly any time riding them. No - I'm not saying you guys don't drive, and I wouldn't care if you did or didn't. I'm just pointing out that perhaps 'detailing' (shudder) is an absorbing hobby. Which is fair enough in my eyes.
